1139.0. "Marilyn (who he?)" by ARRODS::WHITEHEADJ (Squadron Leader Squidgy) Thu Apr 15 1993 14:40

Who remembers the singer Marilyn - a male whose real name was Pete
Robinson (I think). He was around at the same time as Boy George
(early eighties) and dressed much the same, ie looked like a woman!
The last time I saw him was at the Band Aid recording at Xmas 84 (no,
I wasn't there but I've got the video!).

Anyway, can anyone remember the name of his one and only hit single?

    Nostalgically yours,
    Goldy.

That's the one! I thought the word 'name' featured in it somewhere.

    Thanks,
    Goldy.

There was a "Where are they now" feature on Marilyn in Q a couple of
months back, as far as I remember. I didn't read it though...

I've still got it: it mentions the other mini-hit 'Cry and Be Free' and two(?)
other non-hits before he gave up the ghost.

Not only do I not still have it, I never did. I just happened to notice
the piece while flicking through a "friend's" copy.

Got implicated in Boy Gorge's drug case, didn't work for four years.
"I'm not the same as I was then, I'm not peddling the same old shit,
the make-up and drag and all that fanciful rubbish. That's how I see
it now. Is see some of the things I was doing, and I wonder what planet
    I was on the time".

Did a one shot PA at Christmas 92, was offered two record deals in
America so his manager is waiting for the 'right price'. Thinks rave
music is no fun, "I'm not even sure that I could enjoy it if I was
off my tits on Ecstacy. I like things if there's a melody"

I think I saw him working as a shop assistant in a Miss Selfridge clothes
shop in London circa 1982. Quite an eyeful, and very good for the shop's
cred I'm sure.

Sorry, what was the question?
