Does anyone know if the Glastonbery Festival will be on this year?

On a slightly different subject, does anyone know if the allegedly
reformed Black Sabbath (original line up) will be performing at
Donnington this year? Is there actually going to be a Donnington
festival this year?!

There was an initial list in the NME a couple of weeks back but
as each festival goes by I tend not to worry too much about who's
on. In fact I hope Eavis cuts down on the number of big name
acts this year as the festival's becoming unbearably big.

Another important factor is the weather. It never used to bother
me that much at earlier festivals, something to do with large
quantities of everything, but now it can make or break a weekend.
Especially so this year as we are thinking of bringing along the
eldest kid. Long term weather forecast for the end of June anyone?

as the last reply in here is quite old, I suppose everyone's seen the
full page ad's by now (and No, I'm not going to type one for those of
you who haven't); However just to say that the 'Leek Posse' will be
making the trek again this year, anything up to 50 of us arriving from
Wednesday morning onwards.... We'll probably be camped in what used to
be East Holts - last year we were with the Tipi People - so come and
    look us up.

We've got a 'Stealie' flag, and possibly a 'Yin & Yang' flag with
Aircraft lights attached so we should be easy enough to find....(once
you've found the right field of course ;-)

...latest news from the NME - Sunscreem have pulled out because they
don't think the other bands they're billed with (which includes 'The
Orb' and possibly 'Eat Static') are 'Dance' music acts... Don't know
what they were expecting then 8^)

...and a friend who will be working at the festival, tells me they've
installed turnstiles !!!! HOW AM I GOING TO GET THE TRAILER IN !!

Several of our group went to Glastonbury at the w/e to check out the
site, the layout seems pretty much unchanged from last year so we're
sticking with last years map... a few copies could be made available if

Greg :- I've just mailed some mapsd to you, the area we aim to camp in is
not officially a camping area - it's going to be inhabited by the Tipi
people. However, last year they didn't try to have us moved or anything
    so we should be okay.

The use of several fields has changed again this year, as well as an
additional off-site parking area, also the installation of turnstiles
so that the organisers can prove the number of persons let in, seperate
turnstiles will be used for pass-out/returns with hands being stamped
on exit - the detail of these stamps will of course not be disclosed
until the turnstiles open on Wednesday.

Ive been asked to post the following by a friend who works at the
    festival each year :-

A warning for anyone going who hasn't attended before, be very careful
of who you surrender your ticket to - especially if you arrive in the
dark, a favourite trick from previous years is to walk down the queue
of cars in the surrounding lanes waving a torch and wearing a reflective
jacket - looks very official - asking occupants of said cars to hand
    over tickets!

If anyone else would like a map, post a note or mail me - they're not
brilliant but they're better than whats on the back of the
    tickets......

A bit of advice from my friend in the know,

If you're taking a Camper or van which you intend to sleep in, or you
want to enter the site via Gate 3; save yourselves and the traffic
marshalls a lot of bother by approacing the site from the A37 through
'Pylle' - they're operating a one-way system on some of the lanes and
you could be queuing for a long time if you arrive from Glastonbury.

Greg, how come you might not be going then ??

...well it was just brilliant ! 5 days of great music, food & drink....

...sitting in various fields surrounded by (mostly) beautiful people...

...even the toilets were bearable this year!

and then there was the Car Park 8^(

... in previous years we've dragged our trailer to the car, hitched it
up and driven off the site all within the space of an hour; on Monday
it took 7 (SEVEN) hours to travel the 7/10th's of a mile from where we
had parked to the road - one hour of this was spent trying to manouvre
the trailer the 100yds from the festival exit to the car !

apart from the trhe Car park though, it was a great w/e, highlights
for me were The Velvet Underground, Robert Plant, The Ozrics, The Orb,
Porno for Pyro's and of course John Otway & Atilla the Stockbroker.

....for those who did go, sorry if you tried to find us and couldn't,
we camped near to the Jazz Workshop Tent, as there wasn't enough room
left in the Tipi field (all of the performers were in there as well
this year) at least the late night vibes were better than the constant
Rave stuff that came from the experimental music field last year.....

    .....Okay, The Velvet Underground -

they played 'Sweet Jane', 'All Tomorrows Parties', 'White light',
'Waiting for my man', 'Venus in Furs' and several others which I can't
remember 8^); very few tracks were introduced which sort of fitted with
what I've read in interviews with the band - they wrote the songs as an
observation of what happened around them, they didn't condem it or
condone it, and they weren't trying to get across any particular
    message.....

... the only downer really was the daylight; this is a band who (at
least in the legends) were a part of the night scene, playing clubs and
bars in the early hours, to see them in daylight was kind of unreal.

Left on Sunday 'bout 3pm, only took about 20 mins to get out and onto
    the main road.

Highlights were definetly The Orb and Stereos MCs.
Loadsa really varyied and good food. Lotsa different styles, Creole,
Japanese (there were either several Japanese Noodle bars or I was
walking in Circles!), English (of course!) Chinese etc.

Tons of stalls and Shops too, I bought a good 100% wool jacket, made in
Nepal (for peanuts no doubt) for 20 quid, its
    really nice too.

Toilets were (for a number 2) were pretty awfull. Very well Organized
and a great weekend. The cool weather on the Saturday was very welcome
    too.

Don't know what else to say about the Orb other than they were pretty
good, I'm a big fan an all that but I didn't study that much or take
notes. I can say they were much better than when I saw them live in
Portsmouth last year, Back then it was just two blocks (couldn't tell
who) behind what seemed liek two turntables. Music ddin't seem to
    represent the Orb at all.

... much 'Mellower' than when we'd seen them before, I thought they
    were great, but others preffered them more 'up-tempo'/'rave-like';

usual sort of stage show, an occasional glimpse of movement behind the
equipment; great light show, and good stereo image added to the
    'ambience'....
