1067.0. "Swallow" by RAB::KARDON (Quite tasteless, actually) Tue Sep 15 1992 23:43

I've seen several mentions of the band Swallow in this conference.
    Are they a new band?

I can only find one album by them here in the States. Have they
rcorded more. Also, I can't seem to find it, but I thought somebody
put a reply in here saying that the new album was going to be
rereleased (or repackaged) with some extra tracks.

    Ring a bell?

Swallow are a new band, signed to 4AD. They have been compared to
various bands such as MBV, Cocteau Twins etc. Most reviews which I
have read so far have been pretty good (I bought the CD and think it's
a load of crap, however). As far as I know only one album has been
recorded, `Blow', which was released last month. There was a brief
interview with them in one of the weekly music rags recently, though I
    forget which one.

I too have purchased 'Blow' but actually like it. There is a kind of
review by me in note 137.ninetysomething (Cocteau Twins). They sound
like a combination of The Twins (but the vocalist is nowhere near as
good as Liz), MBV, The Cranes, early TMC, Lush and bits'n'pieces of others.
They have a new release entitled 'Blowback' which is reworks of
'Blow'... as long as its not dance versions of Blow, Ill probably buy
it. I can understand some reviewer saying Swallow sound like the
Cocteaus, but lovers of the Cocteaus would say otherwise... a bit like
me hearing a heavy metal band and saying they sound like any other
heavy metal band, as I dont listen to heavy metal and wouldnt notice
any differences, but Im sure ther must be (isnt there ?? :-) ).

I believe they are from Cork in Ireland, and have just performed a few
gigs in the UK, but I havent read any reviews.

    Cheers

I heard that they were from London, but music mags always say that
    when they don't know...!

    Chris.

PS I DO listen to Heavy Metal. There are differences!!
