1019.0. "The Pale" by KERNEL::MACLEAN (Sandie frae the Isles) Tue May 19 1992 16:05

Hi,

I Heard 'The Pale' as support to Del Amitri last weekend ,and was quite
surprised to hear them again on Moday Morning as Radio 1 /Simon Mayo's
Record of the Week with 'Dogs with no Tails' !!

.....According to their bumph they were "Formed in Dublin' s Northside
in 1990 , the three-piece of Mathew Devereux ( vocals) , Shane Wearen
(mandolin) and Sean Molloy (Bass) belong to no scene , nor owe their
exalted reputation to any retred of past forms . The NME has likened
them to Stump , Vox to a bastardized Bulgarian Choir, but if you could
imagine the musical equivalent of a Charles Manson bedtime story you
might be closer to their mark."

Visually and Musically they were quite entertaining ,especially of note
was one of the first few songs of their set "I am the Butterfly"..
..however ,I was just a tad disappointed to notice that they were using
a backing track for Keyboard /Drums.Their overall sound was distinctive
and memorable (particularly liked the use of the mandolin) , but I just
couldn't get the thought of 'the sand dance' out of my head afterwards!

Single released Next Monday(25th May).I'd be interested to hear more if
anyone has any details about them /previous recordings ?

I too saw THE PALE supporting Del Amitri , and was impressed.

I don't know much about them , apart from reading the aforementioned
    bumf but they are different.

The lead singer is completly off his head , quite unusual to watch.

Hopefully they'll go far, we need something different in the charts.

...and the more observant amongst you will have noticed that the lead
singer in The Pale, one Matthew Devereaux, had a small part as an
expectant skinhead father in The Snapper which was on BBC2 last night.

The Pale are playing in Vagabonds,( yes Vagabonds!) , Galway tonight,
Tues 14/4/93. I saw them 2 years aga, playing support to The
Beautiful South in Leisurland during the arts festival. One of the
best, and strangest, proformances I have ever seen. Here's One We
    Made Earlier is excellent.

    Don't miss it.
