Theres been no formal announcement yet, I think there still a lot of
hassle with the organisers, I don't think that the Mean Fiddler are
incharge this year. The bands so far are Public enemy, and some others
I can't remember. (Nirvana, Wonderstuff?). Not sure if I'll go or not
    this year.

Nirvana and Wonderstuff are playing - so says the paper.

There's also a festival at Finsbury Park on June the 6 which includes

I read that it will also be at a different site this year. There's
also some "surprises" planned to commemorate the 20th year of the
festival. The Mean Fiddler tent will also be up but as mentioned
there is some sort of row going on. {I asked some where else, a
Reading '92 note in Rad, maybe) what a row is, from the context I'd
assume it's some sort of heated dispute.

    Hi gang,
The main acts confirmed so far, are the Wonder Stuff and
Charlatans to play Friday. Public Enemy and RIDE (Yeehaa) are playing
Saturday, and Nirvarna are headlining Sunday. The bands are definite
however the nights may be slightly different. Should be good this year.
The festival is being run by mean fiddler at the normal site. According
to Melody Maker another organisation (no name) is holding a
alternative "Redding" elsewhere.. No bands confirmed yet! Also
playing the real Reading are PIL,Silverfish, and Kingmaker.

                           See you there,

If I remember rightly, the Reading Rock Festival wasn't always the Reading
Rock Festival. It has only been the Reading Rock Festival for about 20
    odd years.

    Now the explanation:

The Reading Rock Festival used to have some pretentious title like The
National Rock Festival. That had its 25th anniversary a few years back.
The last 20 instances of the National Rock Festival have been at
Reading, hence the 20th Reading Rock Festival.

P.S. - can you take beer in to the festival {in plastic containers}?

Camping area, anything goes, but don't think they'll let beer in the arena.
They want you to drink their overpriced warm beer instead.

Last year, they wouldn't let you take beer in, and all other drinks in plastic
containers has the tops cut right off, so if you threw them, all the drink
would come out, and they wouldn't be so heavy.

Then again, I saw some people inside the arena with beer, so it depends whether
the bouncer finds it or not! The worst thing they can do is take it off you.

    Hi there,

we will arrive to London on the 23rd of August and we are planning to
go to Reading. And a little more information would be appreciated:

Re .20 said that 3-days tickets are limitted to 25K. Should we get
tickets beforehand (from London or even earlier)?

Re .26 said that 1-day tickets are available on site. How much per day?
    Are they unlimitted?

How late bands are playing (especially interested in Sunday)?

Accomodiations? What other options we have beside tent if any (prices,
    tel numbers)?

As far as I know the usual places are credit card hotlines - also you
can buy them from record shops and travel shops but they usually send
any tix they have left back some time, between 3days and two weeks,to
the organisers. So if you aren't here early you maybe won't get them at
the shops - anyway they ARE going to be on sale at the ground with the
camping and parking extra - which should be resonable compared to the
    local farmers rates.

Hi,
I thought PiL were good Friday but JL was being a complete twat! The
sight of the skinny frame in big white shorts, t-shirt, trainers and pink
socks rubbing his crotch and doing pelvic thrusts was pathetic. Also he kept
trying to "shock" the crowd with rude words etc... (you know, like he has for
years.... yawn!). Didn't bother to see ChunderStuff, went to the pub.

Saturday was a bit naff, PJ Harvey was excellent, I wish I had been
up front instead of sitting down, I thought that with all the hype PJ would
be a crap indie band; speaking of which, when the Charlatans were playing I
thought it was still the interval music! Didn't want to see Public Enemy, went
to the pub.

Sunday, weather was *awful*, but bands were good. Was severely
disappointed to get there too late for Bjorn Again or L7 (what was the @thingy@)
but really enjoyed Mudhoney and Nick Cave (was near the front). Stayed at the
front for Nirvana. Great fun, was funny to Indie-pop-kids dragged out of the
masses after about 2.74 seconds! Went to find my girlie about halfway through
the set. It was Sunday. The pub was shut.

Good for her!! I figured that's what whoever said thingy meant. Way
cool. Reminds me of "Parents Weekend" Freshman year at the UofA when
my friends & I were drinking Sloe Gin Fizzes in the dorms & had the

Yes the @thingy@ is what I meant to be a tampon - I was trying to be
polite - maybe I shouldn't bother.I thought it was hilarious and once
again - good on her - a better reaction than that of the Farm who threw
cider over a punter who jockingly said he was a mud-thrower,the lead
singer also tried to give him a Glesga Kiss - arseholes.
I was looking forward to seeing The Farm but the lead singer was
deplorable.I can't sing but think I would have done a better job than
    he did.
