948.0. "Steve Howe - who is that man?" by KERNEL::SMITHERSJ () Mon Dec 09 1991 17:49

Has anyone heard of a CD called "Tolerance" or something similiar
    by Steve Howe.

I was under the impression it was his latest but after a fruitless
conversation with someone in Our Price this lunchtime, did he
release this earlier in the year?

I am trying to get this for a Christmas present, I haven't a clue
about the guy, apart from I think he came from Yes.

Any info on his CD's would be most appreciative.

He was the mean guitarist in Yes, who stayed in the group when Yes
    became the Buglyes.

He did one solo album which was called "The Steve Howe album". He can't
sing for toffee. The last one was a Vivaldi number which I thought was
dead good. I've got it on a Long Player. In fact I think the whole
    album is pretty good.

He was/is indeed one of the guitarists from Yes. A very accomplished
one at that. The Cd you refer to is a new one, and more information on
it can be found in the Yes topic in the MUSIC conference.

He also did one solo album called "Beginnings" I think. On both his
solo albums I thought his guitaring was rough but good and the singing
was poor (some women were singing aswell as him) but I still liked them
at the time. Now they sound really old.

    Julia,

The album is called "Turbulence", and is available on import. I've seen
it in HMV in Southampton for around 20 pounds, and I've also seen it on
mail order from some of the shops that advertise in the back of "Q"
for around the same price. I will try and remember to bring in a copy
so I can give you the telephone number, if you don't have one handy.

Never knew you had such excellent taste Chris! "After the War" (track
off the third (and final?) album (Asia "Alpha" ?) has to be my fave.
Once had the picture disk of the first album "Asia", but sold it a long
    time ago.

Ta for the reminder of a brill band!

There were three full Asia albums and a complimation called
something like "now and then" which contained 5 or 6 new tracks.
This came out about six months ago.

I've never got around to buying it though I've read excellent reviews.

I bought "Turbulance" on a trip to the States last week...it's very
    good.

It also only cost me $13:00, a little cheaper than the run of the mill
    HMV/Our Price ridiculous import prices.

Can anyone tell me if "Beginnings" or "The Steve Howe Album" are worth
    getting, can anyone comment ?

    Thanks,

    Kevin.
