889.0. "The Sex Pistols" by JUMBLY::OCONNOR (Shhhh!) Fri Aug 16 1991 18:00

I'm getting worse. I've moved from crashing dinosaur rock to thrash to
more metal, that is the sex pistols ummm "only" record "Never Mind The
    Bollocks".

The two tracks I'm hooked on are "Bodies" and "E.M.I.". A free musician's
magazine which I picked up recently described this as "more heavy
metal" (ps they liked it) and I'd agree with that except that it hasn't
    got the same attitude problems.

Anyway I'd better take up my bed and walk to the Heavy_Metal conference.
You don't really want to talk about this do you ? Metal and scrap-yard
rock...We don' wanna baby that looks like that...'n srfsup::berzer don'
wanna baby that looks like that! -;)

WHAT? I told you I AM NOT HAVING YOUR BABY! And that's final.

PS What do the Sex Pistols have to do w/ Heavy_Metal anyway?

'Making Music' mag seems to think they were some kind of precursor to
the early 80's 'Noo Waif of Brit 'Eavy Metal' or summat. Still, they at
least recommend their lp as a great influence.

I've got a live lp of the Pistols recorded sometime in '76, and jolly
    good it is too.

There's something in that theory. If you listen to PIL's "Album" (or is
it "Cassette" or "CD" or "I taped it off the radio, actually") then
that really is hard rock, at least in its original sense before the
boys with blow-waved hair and lycra trousers made it ridiculous.

Which PIL album are you referring to?

None of the first three sound the slightest bit like HM. The second -
"Metal Box" originally sold as a series of maxi singles enclosed in a
record-shaped metal box - was genuinely innovative and had a marked
influence on British post-punk new wave, or whatever you want to call
    it, in the early 80s.

As I said in .3, I'm referring to the PIL album "Album", which was released
Circa 1985.
