851.0. "The Subterranea" by WELCLU::GREENB (Only losers take the bus) Tue Jun 11 1991 11:59

Where is it? How do I get there? What's it like? Can I park easily in
    the vicinity? Etc?

I'm going there tonight, apparently to see a group of Abba-heads called
    'Bjorn Again'.

Ladbroke Grove tube. It's under the A40 flyover at a place called pier 69.
They have a market there sometime. It's a good venue. Seating, balcony, food
(pretty good food at that), drink etc. About the size of the Mean Fiddler.

I saw a poster for these `Bjorn again' people. They were standing in front of
a helicopter dressed in white jump suits, just like the cover of Abba's
`Arrival' album. The noive of some people! Do they just do Abba covers then?
Are they Swedish too?

    Thanks, Lee!

I'm not really sure what they do, but I believe (maybe semi-serious)
Abba covers figure in there somewhere.

    Full report soon.

They're Australian. As far as I'm aware, ABBA covers are *all* they do!

    Sorry to put you off!

    Ian.

Ian, you haven't put me off in the slightest. Knowing that they are
Australian and do *only* Abba covers makes the whole evening ever
more appealing. As long as they don't do 'I believe in Angels', that
    is.

It's time for you to start another `70s tosh' note Bob.

I think so, Tim, but Abba are so far beyond uncool as to be totally
now, happenin', kickin' etc., that they would definitely be excluded.

If it's good enough for KLF to steal, it's good enough for me.

ABBA are/were one of the best groups ever in the world.
Wish I could go to that place tonight and see this other group.

Bib, a full report tomorrow please.

Bjorn again are an Australian act that has garnered the right to
take this name from founding ABBA member Bjorn. By the sound of
them on BBC radio Saturday morning it is real hard to tell what
is ABBA and what is an imitation. BUT the highlight must be the
great clothes that the will be wearing....

    please give us a review!!!
851.11Is this a review?WELCLU::GREENBOnly losers take the busWed Jun 12 1991 11:2022
Well, they do sound uncannily like the real Abba, but that doesn't mean
they are just a cabaret act. There's a lot of onstage banter in totally
ridiculous Swedish accents, and they play all those great Abba hits we
have come to know and love over the years (as it happens, I wasn't a
fan at the time, I was into, er, serious music, man; I only came to
realise how cool they were in later years).

The audience were having a truly fab time too, obviously many of them
were reliving their childhoods down the local disco (before the band
came on, we were treated to a load of 70's tosh such as Gary, Sweet,
Marc, erm, Boney M, errrr, etc); loads of arm-waving, lighters held
aloft, singing along and general, um, looning about.

I don't know where they can go from here, though - they've dug
themselves into a hole really. Basically all they do is play all of
Abba's hits (albeit very well). I suppose one day they'll just get
bored and stop, so maybe you'd better catch them soon if this kind of
entertainment appeals to you - it appealed to me, and I wasn't
disappointed, despite my socio-psychological reservations (arf arf).

p.s. Sartorially, I couldn't fault them - loads of white silk with
shiny applique flowers, etc., plus of course those terrific wigs,
almost like the real thing. I was a bit disappointed that no-one in
the audience bothered to make the effort, though; there wasn't a
cheesecloth smock or platform sole to be seen anywhere.
