846.0. "Help on two songs" by ARRODS::WHITEHEADJ (The future is mine) Tue Jun 04 1991 11:54

I'm trying to find out the artists who recorded the following two
songs. Both songs are by different artists and I've been told that
there have been many versions of both songs recorded over the years.

   	Poison Ivy
   	Oh Boy

Can someone list the artists please.

   Jane.

Poison Ivy was a very early single by the Rolling Stones.

We've thought of that one. We also discovered that a group called
the Ivy League also recorded it, but that's not the correct answer
   either.

Kid Congo (as the note diverses even further) was last spotted being a Bad Seed
with Nick Cave. Don't think they did Poison Ivy though...

846.13OH Boy:I'll post a list if I remember!KURMA::ISUTHERLANDTue Jun 11 1991 11:588

According to the Guiness book of Hit Singles, only the three groups you
    mentioned,(i.e.The Paramounts,The Coasters and the lambrettas),had
chart success with Poison ivy,(in Gt.Britain).
    		As for Oh Boy,if I remember i'll have a look tonight,and
post a list tomorrow. But I'm pretty sure that the Brotherhood of Man
one was a completely different version from the one to which you refer, and
was called something like,Oh Boy(The mood I'm in).

Here in the states it was "Poison Ivy" by The Coasters on the Atco
label that was a gold hit in August of 1959. The words and music
were written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.

"Oh, Boy!" was popularized by The Crickets on the Brunswick label
and became a hit in November of 1957. The words and music of this
song were written by Buddy Holly and Norman Petty.
