| Thanks, Dave. I always liked 'The Saints Are Coming' as well; is this
on one of the albums?

| I picked up the greatest hits album and I think its called "Fanfare"
Its got all the well known ones on it and all for under a fiver.
What prompted me to look for it was seeing that Maxell advert and
remembering all the decent stuff they had done.

| Wow this has got me going now...
Was their 1st single 'Charles' ???? I seem to remember the opening
line being 'charles got a job in a factory'. Looks like Ill have to go
through all the old singles soon to jog my memory.
Isnt Jobson now working in TV after his poetry phase and being on the
Ford Granada advert ?? Still, he was a hell of a good footballer, the
bruise may have gone but I still remember playing against him.

That bloody maxell advert has cost me a fortune.
I heard it and had to go out and get it.
I didnt want a compilation album, I wanted the single.
So I went down to collectors records in Manchester.
Did they have it ??
Yeah, They had it. Unfortunately they had tons of other stuff that I
owned at one stage but lost over the years. Swapping an autographed 12"
copy of "Where have all the bootboys gone" by slaughter and the dogs
for 20 Embassy number one for example.
So what have I been doing recently. Buying it all back.
Into the Valley..........Skids
Smash It Up..............Damned
Sound of the Suburbs.....Members
Teenage Kicks............Undertones
Destination Venus........Rezillos
It has probably cost me as much to buy those five singles today as it
did to buy all my records in total back then...
Hate that bloody advert.

I always found that The Skids were a suberb singles band
but seemed to lack the stamina to produce equally good LPs.
Check out "Sweet Suburbia", which must be the second single
and was originally on white vinyl. "The Saints are Coming" was
originally released on a 4-track EP, which is also well worth
investigating.
You can occasionally hear Jobbo trying, and failing, to be an
interesting radio journalist on Radio 4's Loose Ends on Saturday
mornings.

| I used to have that 4-track ep, what a cracker it was too. Like so much
other stuff of that era, it 'went missing' at a party one night.

Bob,
I have a 12" and a 7" of that EP (I think), but it might be difficult
getting one of them to you 'cos I live in Paris.
Did you realize that the Skids were originally called the Skidmarks? Pretty
tasteless, n'est-ce pas?

Regularly to be seen being hip and trendy on Thames TV's London life
programme, 01 (which used to be called 01 For London until BT spoiled
the reference).
