782.0. "Predictions For 1991 (Mystic Megs Apply Here)" by CHEFS::PRICET (From the global village....) Mon Dec 24 1990 15:11

Put your predictions for 1991 here.

I'll start, the Manchester scene will die and the Thames Valley scene
will take over, they're talking about it already, Ride, Slowdive,
    Chapterhouse, Swervedriver, er, er, er....

The Stone Roses won't make any more records

New Kids On The Block will disappear like Bros and be replaced by some
other teeny bop band, EMF perhaps =8*)

They'll be a massive strike amongst music buyers when they announce
that vinyl records won't be produced anymore (I hope, vinyl is special)

The Soup Dragons and Primal Scream will undergo another style and
influence change all depending on what is trendy.

And one of my biggest hopes - Jive Bunny will get Mixamotosis (sp?)

    >> The Stone Roses won't make any more records.

Well, they certainly couldn't make any less than they have doen in
    1990.

Thames Valley, pshaw! The Thameslink sound will be what's happening in
1991. Watch out for the Apache Twins, my tip for the top next year.

    Bob
782.2SHAPES::FIDDLERMMon Dec 24 1990 16:0623
Matty will have a sex change and but a pointy bra.

Madonna will grow a beard and smoke a pipe.

Tim will *possibly* mention interviewing the Wedding Present and Billy
    Bragg for his fanzine.

Tipton will take over from Manchester.

People will still mindlessly accept the demise of Vinyl. Will they
    ever learn?

Bob Green will buy his shirts from Littlewoods.

I'll stop looking like Black Francis, and more like Guy Chadwick.

Happy Mondays will become the new Rolling Stones.

	Hi Tim,

Thanks again for the fanzine you sent me. I liked the "House of Love
with Chainsaws" descriptive reference for Ride.

I picked up a MAXI SINGLE or whatever it's called by Sweredriver last
night. I wish I could remember exactly what was written on the jewel
case (It came in just the CD paper case but was attached to a case for
shelf storage purposes), something like "hard driving guitars"
scribbled in black marker. At least it didn't refer to them as
	a Thames Valley band. :)

As you know I like Ride, the little I heard from Chapterhouse
I liked but still haven't seen anything in the stores by them. I'll
have to wait to hear some Slowdive.

I guess what I said and my p-name means I agree so far with your
	prediction!

	- Jim

782.6Hasn't the Manchester scene already gone?IGETIT::BROWNMThis year is MY year!Thu Jan 03 1991 15:1823
I don't reckon there is a Thames Valley scene!

Madonna will continue to produce utterley astonishing vinyl.

Eastern Bloc will open branches all over the country, including
    Mevagissey and Egremont.

Simon Bates will be taken off the air for being boring.

    EMF will become massive.

Industrial keyboards mashed will guitars will be the next (but not new)
    sound.

World Of Twist will chart, as will Paris Angels.

Status Quo will release a 26th aniversary record called `The Aniversary
    Waltz Part 3'.

    Saddam will get nuked.

Simon Bates will get taken off the air for *persistently* not telling
us what record he's just played when it's been a good one you haven't
heard before and would like to know what it was. He does it all the
time!!!! (at least, he does on the rare occasions you hear a good
    record)

    Bob

p.s. Tim, are you in Queens House?

782.8PEKING::GLYNNPAMANNP: did he really exist?Thu Jan 03 1991 17:1221

A new TV show dedicated to good music will be presented by Bruce
    Sturrock.

New Kids on the Block will spontaneously explode in a unfortunate
    accident.

Bob Green will give up wild shirts for a new collection of bikini tops.

The Pogues will make a glorious comeback shortly after which Shane
McGowan will die of alchohol poisoning.

The two "swing your pants" blokes from Going Live will become the next
    people's poets.

It will be revealed that Mike Fiddler killed Laura Palmer (he was the
    third man ;-))

    All my hair falls out.

    Paul
