771.0. "Christmas No.1 - 1990" by IGETIT::BROWNM (Boing Ping Boom Tchsak Ping) Thu Nov 29 1990 15:14

    Please enter you predictions for the Christmas No1. Included in the
    running has to be;

    Madonna		-	Justify My Love
    The Farm -	All Together Now
    Righteous Brothers	-	You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin
    Yazoo		-   	Situation (new mixes)

    plus loads more.

    I can't remember the title of my prediction. It somewhere in the Top25
    as a new entry by some guy, who's name I don't know, who sounds like
    me! Even the lyrics sounds like mine - maybe that why I like it!

    matty

    ps. Did I ever tell you I wrote `Kingston Town' by UB40? Honest! No
    ;-) here.

771.2CHEFS::PRICETShaking The Disease..Thu Nov 29 1990 15:2417
    My predictions

    The Farm - Would be the best Christmas No.1 out of the contenders
                  but will probably only make the Top 3/5

    The Righteous Brothers - Stands a good chance but has sold a lot of
     			     copies over the years on old gold so maybe too
    			     many people have it for it to make no.1

    The Metal Gurus - Not a chance, if Andrew Eldritch thought Wayne Hussey
    		      was a prat in 1985 what does he think now,
    		      probably be in the top 15 though.

    Cliff must stand a good chance as well

    I didn't listen to the Charts on Sunday but how is

    The Proclaimers - King of the Road

    doing?
771.4Swing those pantsXSTACY::PATTISONA rolling stone gets the wormFri Nov 30 1990 14:262
    How about the Singing Corner (and Donovan)...
771.5CHEFS::PRICETShaking The Disease..Fri Nov 30 1990 14:285
    No way its a shame that they decided to do such a weak single, they can
    be so funny but this isn't very good.

771.7MY DEFINITION IS THISSUBURB::ABSOLOMTMon Dec 03 1990 15:324
    I've no idea who it's by but the record's called My Definition.
    It's a right corker and will be number one four about seven years, ish.

    Tony
771.8PEKING::AMANNPAnd the Majorettes marched in.Mon Dec 03 1990 15:467
    My definition is by the Dream Warriors (I don't like it much!)

    I reckon that the Christmas No.1 will either be Kinky Boots or the
    Cliff Richard (Saviours day?!?), the Cliff Richard one was the highest
    new entry on the chart.

    Paul.
771.9IGETIT::BROWNMBoing Ping Boom Tchsak PingMon Dec 03 1990 15:5518
    Cliffy in at No5. I don't reckon it'll make it. It's not as good as
    `Mistletoe And Wine'. I reckon Madonna will climb very quickly next
    week, because all the sales that took it to No9 are of the 7". The 7"
    contains material already released (a and b sides) on the LP, which is
    selling buckets. The 12" is out today so sales should rocket this
    week, but I have a feeling it will peak too early. (no sexual pun
    intended!!! :-)

    The record I think that might do the biz is Chris Izack's `Wicked Game'.
    It is the highest climber this week. But `You've Lost That Lovin'
    Feelin' is still to come, but as Tim said earlier everyone's already
    got that. I think the Farm's record will do OK too.

    Re-2. `My Definition Of A Boombastic Jazz Style' by the Dream
    Warriors. I love it, but not as much as their last `Wash Your Face In
    My Sink'. Like De La Soul, but faster.

    'not as good as Mistletoe and Wine'...you really do have problems
    sometimes Matty ;-) Do we have a Cliff fan in our midst? If you
    bought a copy of that b****y record, you ought to be forced to do
    something really unpleasant, preferably involving lumpy custard and
    newspaper.

    Seriously tho, the Chris Izaak record. I've never heard of him before,
    and on TOTP last week I was fully tanked up to hate the song, but it
    had some interesting phrasing in it, and i ended up enjoying it. Hmmm.
    Maybe I should go and buy a Cliff Richard christmas single...

    ps ... Good sale on in Woolies at the moment.
771.11WELMTS::GREENBThree nil!!!!!!Mon Dec 03 1990 17:148
    I don't think Chris Izaak scores high enough on either the
    jolly-o-meter or the sentiment-o-meter to make it to No. 1 this
    Christmas, but then who'd have thought a depressing bit of old tosh by
    Pink Floyd could be a Christmas number 1?

    James in at 38 this week..!

771.12MAD, MAD, RAVING MADONNASUBURB::ABSOLOMTMon Dec 03 1990 20:156
    Ya know, it's only three more Sundays. Vanilla Ice will be numero uno
    next week for sure.
    So, I can only see it being Madonna. Big names sell at Christmas.
    Are Ladbrokes running a book on this???
