| I didn't buy it - the price put me off (I'm saving up!). I know the
first issue was cut price, but the following issues will be, what,
1.50? I also think Vox is a naff name. And the main reason I buy
these rags anyway is for the news, so a monthly just isn't up-to-date
enough.
I did like the cover though.
I'm getting racked off with music journo's at the moment. I don't like
the idea of the journo forcing their opnions down the reader's throat.
I really hate all that pretentious language that they use - (to quote
Steve Wright), "A solid cathedral of sound". What a load of crap they
come out with. Of course the problem with the less opnionated journo
is that they all ask the same questions so, when a new artist comes to
prominence, things get boring after the first few interviews.
I think Record Mirror is right for me because it is full of facts and
focus' on Dance and Crossover with a dash of Pop too. I also like the
US chart listing, and they tell you what gunna be on TOTP, and they
list how much the LP's have sold. The reviews are usually OK too.
NME is OK for info, but most of the interviews are a load of crap.
They work you up so much, so you buy the record and find it's really
naff. Melody Maker is even worse. Smash Hits and No1, now they have
some good colour pictures! Seriously though, they've helped switch
kids onto Indie stuff. Also it's good when they ask questions that NME
or MM wouldn't dare. For instance they had Billy Gillespie show them
round his bedroom, and explain it's contents. They also come up with
the odd bit of pop news, eg. "Madonna has a new album coming out in
Decemeber 1996 and includes outakes from future albums.". But of
course they rant on about Kylie and Jason and Bros and Wet Wet Wet etc.
But some of the childish journalism is sooooo funny sometimes.

| I just cant be bothered reading about groups and their `mission' in
life. I AM interested in buying things (of the musical type) second
hand.
Here in Ireland, musical equipment is priced at extortion levels. The
only way for me to get good stuff is through the classifieds, and the
classifieds in Melody Maker are the best... or so Ive been told.
Does any one know of a notes file where second hand stuff is
advertised?

| Musicians_uk, Commusic, Drums, Guitar. I don't know the nodes, you'd
have to look on VTX.
