731.0. "The Carlsberg ad - Cajun Music" by KLCSE::J_BYRNE () Wed Sep 05 1990 13:57

Has anybody seen the Carlsberg ad on TV ( perhaps only on Irish TV)
which tells about the history of the lager ? The background music
is by a Canadian band called the 'Balfa Brothers'. The song is
called 'Mardi Gras' and the music is apparently Cajun Music ( cross
between Irish, Scottish and French traditional music ).

The song has been released over here and the LP 'Arcadian Memories'
ia also available ( CD and cassette version to be released mid-
    	September).

Does anybody know anything about this band/ bought the album/ seen
        the add?

    	Cheers,

    	John.

I've not seen the add, the group, of the film, or bought the video.

    but

I thought Cajun music was done by French Canadians. All Acordians and
    that!

Re: .0 John

I haven't picked a nit all day, so......isn't it Carling Black Label ya mean?

-Brian.

Rathole:
Personally, I like the music for the Smithwicks "Heart of the night"
series of ads. It's the only ad that I pump up the volume & get into the groove
for.

I like the music from the Kronenbourg ad - the "I still can't pass
those goalposts" one. Also, I like Kronenbourg.

Cajun - which is a contraction of the word Arcadian - refers to the
music and people of french speaking areas in Louisiana.

I believe the Balfa Brothers come from Louisiana.

There is much cajun music available on record these days - some of you
may also have seen the film Southern Comfort about a bunch of home
guard soldiers in the Lousisiana swamps. Ry Cooder did the music which
apart from his slide guitar featured cajun string band music.

A cajun fiddler called Harry Choates made a record called Jolie Blon
which is the cajun anthem, back in 1940 something and it is still
    available on the catalogue!!

Andy Kershaw is heavily in to cajun as well.
