| I have several albums by "Material", but I'm pretty sure its not the
same guys, the music is sort of funky, emphasis being on Bill Laswell's
Bass. This was early 1980's.. thought I'd warn you in case you went and
bought them. (Mind you you wouldn't be sorry if you did)

No, it's the same band ........
.0 just neglected to mention Bill Laswell's name ........
Laswell was involved with Laurie Anderson's Mister Heartbreak album,
which also features a song recited by William S. Burroughs, called
Sharkey's Night.
This album has a very heavy Eastern (Indian) melodic influence, and
is very percussion/rhythmic-oriented. I like it a lot (Seven Souls).

| Sounds good, I'll definitely try to get hold of a copy.
You asked for any info, well I have the following by Material:
SINGLES
-------
Ciquiri - A song about American Indians. Raw, garage funk plus
tom-toms.
Bustin' Out - Dance hit featuring Nona Hendryx on vocals
ALBUMS
------
"Temporary Music 1 & 2" (instrumentals)
These are two mini-albums, which are also available as one single album.
The music is experimental garage funk, and superlative sound quality.
(recommended)
"Memory Serves"
Mostly instrumentals, this album takes a few listens but its very
likeable. Imaginative but, very experimental. I can never remember the
names of tunes, but the last track is particularily worth a listen if
you get the chance.
"One Down"
Soul/Dance record, a complete change in direction, but still excellent.
A young Whitney Houston features on one track. (recommended)
Of course none of these records have the benefit of Sly Dunbar's
percussive skills. The production on all of these is of very high
standard though.
