713.0. "What is the Milton Keynes Bowl?" by IOSG::JARRETT () Thu Aug 02 1990 15:19

Has anyone been to the Milton Keynes Bowl? I'm going on Saturday, and
am wondering what kind of bowl it is! A stadium? An amphitheatre? A
hole in the ground? Does it have seats round the size of the bowl?
Doors open very early, at 3.00, for the first of 3 support bands
(yawn). Can anyone advise on what is a reasonable time to arrive?

    Many thanks,

    ~anne~

ps Forgot to say, it is the Bowie concert.

Its actually quite a good place for an outdoor gig. Its a man made
ampitheatre, withgrass slopes. probably be great fun in this weather.
The views and sounds are much better than places such as Wembley, and
    they much better food stands!

If it rains (!!!), dont stand on the grass slope - it gets slippery.
And for the same reason be VERY CAREFUL near the "toilets". ;-)

If sunny - watch out for heat-stroke !!

If its sunny, spend half the gig facing away from the stage, otherwise
your tan will be all down one side.

    A Bit of History.

The MK Bowl (Now the National Bowl) was created with all of the
leftover soil from the building of MK. Contacters were charged a fee to
dump soil there, and the money was used to hire a bulldozer to move the
soil into a horseshoe. It's now leased by Sony. The reason I know this
rubbish. I used to Live in MK, and me Dad worked for the Milton Keynes
    Development Corporation.

Any more useless facts required ask me, eg. The shopping centre contain
1773 sq metres of glass !!!!
