699.0. "Free" by SUBURB::PULLANR (UpRising at the Castle) Thu Jul 05 1990 17:14

I heard on the radio this morning Free's "Wishing Well." however,
it seems to be a re-mix of the version that was released from the
"Heartbreaker" album (c. 1973), with more guitar. Can anyone tell
me when this was released and on what media?

    Richard.

Was this definitely Free doing the song? The reason I ask is that Gary Moore
covered "Wishing Well" on his 'Corridors of Power' album, and maybe you heard
that version??? Definitely lotsa guitar on his (fine) version....

It definitely was Free doing "Wishing Well" and seem very much to
be the '73 version with a bit of extra guitar thrown in.
On a double album called "Blue Soul" (a posthumous "tribute" to
Paul Kossoff), a number of Free tracks were re-mixed which tended
to emphasise Kossoff's guitar. However, "Wishing Well" was originally
recorded without Kossoff, but the extra bit doesn't sound typically
Kossoff. I could do with another listen.

God knows how many acts have recorded this song but the best version
I've heard has been by a now defunct American band called Blackfoot.
It's on their "Strikes" album which came out about 11 years ago.
    Strongly recommend this one.

    FYI

Blackfoot, fronted by Rick Medlocke, is still around. They're
    touring the states this summer.

I thought you were trying to keep quiet about all those dodgy HM
records you bought back in the 70's?

    Hello Mike,

...And the Eighties too. Well, you can't classify those Indians
as H.M. for a start. Perhaps you should give the afformentioned
    album an ear or two?

Apologies Free fans for the relative diagressing.

    Barry.
