686.0. "Crystal Palace Bowl" by BURYST::EDMUNDS ($ no !fm2r, no comment) Fri Jun 01 1990 17:22

    A bit about music venues..

Can anyone tell me about the Crystal Palace Bowl? What is it like?
Where is it? What sort of music did you see there? What are the
acoustics like? or anything else that would be useful to know if you
    were thinking of going there?

    Thanks..
    Keith

I hear the acoustics are a lot better than they were. They put down
traps and caught most of them.

It's a sort of natural amphi-theatre with a lake in front of the stage. During
the summer they ( used to ?) run classical concerts on certain Sundays.
This was normally accompanied by a pretty impressive firework display.
I went there once on a fine summers evening to some food and drink, mellowed
out and then got a little damp due to some light rain.

I believe Nigel Kennedy ( the Richard Clayderman of the violin ? ) is
doing a concert there soon. Tickets 16 pounds.

Ample car-parking , bad traffic.

Older even than that. I remember watching a Scottish TV comedy show in
the early 70s that included a sketch with a version of this joke ("Oh,
the acoustics wuz awful!") , which fair cracked my mother up (probably
why it sticks in my mind).

The Albertos *were* early 70's, Rod. I wonder who's plagiarising who.

Probably a showbizzy type joke with no identifiable origin... like most
    jokes.
