642.0. "Galway Table Quiz" by CLADA::SOCONNOR (Attack of the Ninja Dumptruck) Fri Mar 30 1990 14:01

Here in Galway in the Warwick Hotel Monday 9th April there is a "Pop & Rock
Music table quiz" in aid of the Galway Arts Festival. Four per team.

Anyone here on the West Coast interested in getting a team or teams together?
Reply here or get on to me direct, we'll see what happens

Okay?
Stephen

And here's a tester question ( toughy I reckon ), Which Lyle Lovett song
features a reference to "The Warwick Hotel" ? ( Not the same one of course.....
or is it ?)

Entry Forms were available from yesterday in Zhivago. The manager of Zhivago is
setting the questions, and says that it will have a similar format to the Hot
Press Quiz last year (12 rounds of 10 questions, 2 rounds being audio), but
not as tough. The aim is that an average team should be able to get 50% right!

Well the quiz happened last night .. and we didn't win. The questions
were definitely NOT easy. In the end I think we got 77 out of a maximum
of 120. The sort of questions that caught us out were...

    1) Name a Cliff Richard hit with a number in the title (not counting
      the Young Ones).

    2) Name the Pet Shop Boys (sorry matty.. we just couldnt get one of
    their last names!!

    3) Which record label did Smokie record on?

    4) Why was Jerry Lee Lewis out of the music scene for ten years?

    5) How many albums have been recorded by Mary Coughlan? (is that
    spelled ok)?

Get all five of those right and you should enter a quiz.

Also we slipped up on lots of 'Beat the intro' and 'Whats the next
    line' type questions.

    Dave

Not meaning to confuse the issue (or turn this into yet another competition
topic), my favourite question was to name the group that had 6 hits in 1973/74
all with the name of the band in the title. Any takers?

    1) Twelfth of Never is correct.. there were several other possible
       answers

    3) RCA is wrong.. thats what I said too

I imagine the reason JLL was out of music for 10 years was because of
the scandal with him marrying his 13-year-old cousin.

It brought back memories of a song best forgotten... Sing along now...
