541.0. "Problems?" by BAHTAT::STURROCK (Dear Magda....?) Mon Nov 27 1989 15:54

I think that maybe the silence in here has got something to do with the change
of node address. Quite a few of the people I've asked are unable to log into
Uk_Music.

Is there anything you can do Keith?

Tell 'em to change the node name to 1075::. This worked for me.

It's not my fault! If people cannot get in due to the change of node
address of MARVIN, they need to contact their system managers. The
"1075" solution is OK in the short term, but it is NOT a permanent fix
(MARVIN's address will change again at some stage). Also, that only
addresses the symptoms, not the problem (which is that the system
remote node database is out of date). There will be a LOT more of this
in the future as DECnet Phase V starts to hit the EASYnet. If anyone
needs more info on this, feel free to refer them to me (but by mail
    please, NOT here).

For about a week I haven't been able to access UK_MUSIC.

It came up with "remote node is not currently reachable".

That was because MARVIN changed its DECnet address, and some system
managers didn't update their databases. This will become more common
over the next two years or so unless the system managers look after teh
    remote node database properly....
