527.0. "Reading (Scene & Bands)" by CMBOOT::EVANS (if you don't C# you'll Bb) Wed Oct 25 1989 20:29

I saw the band I used to play in (a few round Reading will have
seen it in it's prime) a while ago..BLUES-CRUISE...remember?

Well I was a little dissapointed to say the least. Remembering the
hours my self & the sax player (Shelly) spent writing out the harmony for
the 5-peice brass section, the band have scrapped any notion of brass
backing by all playing the same note & the idea of counterpoint is to
play bits of the melody line. A bit like the Eno experiment really.

We always agreed that the lead singer was weak & we should find
better but he appears to be the only guy left from the original line
up. The set has'nt changed much, still opening with "Hold back the
night" (except they must have lost my brass lines for it) & covering
much of the Blues Bros. sound track.

I feel a bit sad really, most of the bands I've played in break up
cos' folks wanted to go on to bigger & better things & I always thought
the "CRUISE" would take off & be a real force to reckon with...looks
like I was wrong, I almost felt embarassed for them. Still maybe with
a bit of pruning & re-hiring they'll get the sound back.

    Cheers
    		Pete.

    	Bassist wanted.....Reading UK Area.

You are probably a fan of Duck Dunn. Your musical tastes will be
Blues/rock based. You have gigged before, you have quality gear &
reliable transport, you can sing backing vocals & above all jam.

Ideal applicants will know all the drummer jokes in order to
constantly take the P*ss out of our drummer as he's missing our old
bassist who did this exceptionly well.

No "bread heads" (we don't want to make a loss but playing is the
primary objectve so strategic non-paying gigs will be done),
    no prima-donna's.

We offer a lively enthusiastic band, with medium size PA. Musical
tastes generally as above. We will be playing blues & rock of the
foot-tap/boogie on down variety. We intend to write & cover.

You will be coming in at the beginning as we intend a fresh start
which will be early in the new year. We also have a few regular paying
gigs as soon as the set is ready.

We are organising band transport if possible for this venture
(you may be asked to put some money in to this initially until gig money
     recoups the outlay).

Line up thus far is :-lead/Vocals.....Pete Evans.
    			      :-lead/vocals.....Andy Joyce.
    			      :-Keys/vocals.....Andy Walton.
    			      :-drums/vocals....Moke(Mike)Walton.
    			      :-Bass/vocals.....?????????????????
