502.0. "Syd Barrett note" by ACESMK::KUHN (Plato,Satre,Mr. Ed) Wed Sep 27 1989 01:50

    What the heck, thought i would start a Syd Barrett note. I apoligize
    if this has already been done.

    Roger Waters was always talking about how great Syd Barrett was. Syd
    was in the original Pink Floyd and wrote several of their early hits.
    I had never head him till a friend me loaned me his Syd Barrett Opel
    CD which consists of outakes and demos for his albums. What i find
    interesting about Sid is that he is was a true lost trooper of the
    60's. The guy wrote 'interesting' songs but he gradually lost his mind
    probably through drugs or whatever. He gradually got to the point where
    if he didnt feel like singing at a concert (or on American Bandstand)
    he would just strum his guitar and stare at the audience. Gilmore was
    brought in to replace him.

    Pink Floyds"Wish you were here" album is directed towards ole syd, he
    even showed up one day ready to play. He now lives in the care of his
    mother, he is unable to function alone.

    Anybody know any good stories about Syd or any other 60's loonies?
    Anybody know if Any of Syd's albums are on cd? i've only heard Opel.

    Two Syd lps are available, The Madcap Laughs, and Barrett. There's
    a lot of good and strange stuff on both of them.

502.3Waters on "Shine On"PNEUMA::WILSONMon Jul 16 1990 22:0210
    I'm not sure "Shine On" is really about Syd. In an interview I have
    from a book called "Pink Floyd: A Visual Documentary by Miles", Waters
    claims that "Shine On" really isn't about Syd, but just about anyone
    who has to go to excesses (whatever they may be) to escape the pain of
    life.

    Typical cheerful Waters. I'd love to see Syd make a comeback - for
    somewho who hasn't really recorded much, he sure has a following,
    doesn't he?
