I guess that by the last few replies people are not aware that these
2 tracks are found on "Electric Ladyland", released circa 1968.

Unfortuneately the Hendrix catalogue is very confusing due to dodgy
record deals/cash-ins by record companies/legal wheeler dealing.
This has resulted in a lot of absolute CR@P being released. Someone
then comes along to buy an album, picks one of the unofficial ones,
and is put off for life.

Official releases (from Hendrix whilst alive)
    -----------------

    Are You Experienced 1967
    Axis: Bold as Love 1968
    Electric ladyland 1968 (double)
a singles album 1968 (cant remember title)
Band of Gypsies 1970 (Live material)

Any other albums should be treated with great caution. They are
    either :
    		a. Pre Experience material
                b. Old jam sessions circa 1967
                c. Reworked late studio recordings
                d. Live material, mostly 69/70.

Some of these later posthumus albums do have excellent stuff on
them, and show some of the new musical directions Jimi was going
    in. I would recommend :

Cry of Love (almost completed material when Jimi died)
    Rainbow Bridge ( ditto )

You can also add to the previous list of official releases; "The Jimi Hendrix
Experience Radio 1 Sessions". Pretty good stuff, including Jimi's Radio 1
jingle.

I have a live double album with some weird impressionist painting
of Jimi on the Front, basically his head in orange paint, with blue
    background.

Released by CBS in 76, I have only seen 1 other copy in the u.k,
    although several in France.

Which one is it ? Does anyone know ?"

I think the 'singles album' which Rich is thinking of is "Jimi
Hendrix Smash Hits" released by Track records, so presumably official.

    Re: .8

OK, so this reply is 5 years too late but the album is "The Hendrix
Concerts" - probably the best Hendrix live album. I think it is a
    mixture of many different concerts.

Did anyone see "Hendrix Live at the Isle of Wight" last night on
channel 4? There was an excellent version of Red House but the best
    track was probably War.

...watched the first 15 mins or so, then went to bed and left the VCR
recording it. My immediate reaction (as something of a Hendrix fan, BTW)
was that it wouldn't have been shown if it hadn't been Hendrix. the
sound on stage was obviously poor, which meant he couldn't hear what he
was playing or singing - this partly explains why it sounded so awful -
doing a version of 'God Save The Queen' might have seemed good at the
time, but 25 years on it was just a gimmick.

I'll watch the rest of performance this w/e, and I'll probably keep the
tape for posterity but from what I saw it wasn't a particularly good
performance by anyone's standards, let alone Hendrix himself.

    Graham,

I think I would agree with you for the beginning of the concert but
Red House and War were worth the wait. He definitely looks unhappy at
the beginning of the concert and at the end he looks like he can't
wait to go. I read somewhere that for this concert he had flown in from
the USA 2 hours earlier after some all-night partying so he had no
sleep for 48 hours....but this may be one of those myths!

    Cheers,
    Barry.

    Mikef-bargain hunter extraordinaire!!

Is this the strip that appeared in a comic a couple of years ago? Not
sure of the name but it followed Jimi from childhood through til the
    end.

Re: -2.

I don't think its the same Charles Shaar Murray strip that appeared
in "Revolver" c.1991. I recall that starting with him reaching for the pills
(ala Gandhi, Lawrence of Arabia etc.) while this one, glancing at it in the
comics shop, ends with it.
