445.0. "Echo and the Bunnymen" by AYOV27::MBONE (C'mon Let's work it to the BONE) Tue Jun 20 1989 13:19

I done a dir/title="Echo and the Bunnymen" and didn't find anything
it was for some information regarding the death of their drummer,
I heard that he got killed while driving his moterbike, but I
    have forgotten his name.

Also have Echo and the Bunnymen decided to split because of the
    incedent.

The drummer's name was Pete De Frietas. I haven't heard heard about
    any split though.

They split before he pegged it, the split was well on the cards
during the last tour, in fact its surprising the tour was completed
       at all.

Hi. Its confirmed in todays music press that Pete died in an accident
    whilst out on his motorbike.

E + TB are still going at the moment, but without Ian. I don't
see how they can really go on, not having his vocals. I seem to
recall seeing some stories about them auditioning someone, a famous
    female singer, can't remember who.

We will have to wait and see.

I'm in the process of trying to gather all my tickets stubs together
and keep somewhere safe, so if I find the Echo ticket I probably
wouldn't sell anyway .... I also think I promised another friend
that if I was ever gonna get rid of it he could have it ... sorry,
maybe I should have have put a 8-) after my last entry (or did I?).

Anyone want to give us a review of Ian's Candleland?
Doesn't hit the US until 10/24. The one song they
let out so far sounds alot like Echo.
445.11Newsflash!JUMBLY::OCONNORI have a (wet) DreamTue Oct 17 1989 13:437
Ian McCulloch will be on BBC 2's "The Late Show" tonight at 11.15.
It says "a song from Ian Mc".

But don't blame me if you have to sit through a review about a new
    Sylvia Plath biography....

445.12New Bunnymen LP Soon?PSYLO::WILSONWe can be heroes...just for a dayFri Nov 09 1990 16:0816
    Hello everyone,

Any news about a forthcoming Echo and Bunnymen album, without Ian?

I had heard it was supposed to be titled, "No Mac Required."

Meanwhile, I think Ian is doing well on his own. "Candleland" was a
bit lacking in the guitar department (Ian's not a lead guitarist),
but I got a taste of Ian with his new band, The Prodigal Sons, on a
CD-5 called "Candleland 2: The Second Coming" or somesuch. I think the
next Ian Mc solo album will be good. "Big Days" has that old, full
strange Bunnymen sound, with more polish.

Meanwhile, "Songs to Learn and Sing" remains one of the best "greatest
hits" packages in rock music...great stuff!

The new Bunnymen lp is out now, I can't remember what its called,
didn't get too good reviews tho - sort of OK but nuthing special.

I have the new Bunnymen CD.

Something is different; it isn't just Ian's absence.

This album has really psychedelic overtones.

Do I like it? Well, it really hasn't hit me, you know? Will's playing
is okay, but he doesn't even solo until the eighth song into the album.

I don't think this one will be memorable. Ian's the one to watch, for
    sure!

By the way, the U.S. title is "Reverberation." Catching cover artwork!

I thought the album was going to be titled "No MAC Required."
I guess they realized that the album wasn't that good.

I heard it in a record store, not knowing who it was, and thought
it was some new psychedelic band from Manchester or some such place.
They don't have any of that famous Echo guitar sound that I love
    so much.

If they were some new young band, I'd like it, but considering who
they are, it's a real disappointment.

Interesting to see Ian MaC and Will Sergeant forming a new band
Electrafixion. Are they expecting to be Bunnymen Part 2 or a completely
    new sound?

Dug out 'Porcupine' the other night and have to say it really is a
fine record. Remember it was slagged pretty rotten when it first came
out after the rather dour 'Heaven Up Here' had been universally
    acclaimed. Oh the fickle press...

I read a review of Electrafixion - apparently Mac doesn't want the band
to be seen as the Bunnymen pt. 2. The first thing he said to the
audience was something like 'Don't bother shouting for any of the old
stuff, we are doing all new ones'.

Still, the Bunnymen had some fine moments.....
