432.0. "Tom Robinson" by DUB01::BOYLE (Tony, Dublin Eire, DTN:827-2499) Tue May 30 1989 21:08

Hi All,

Any Tom Robinson or TRB fans out there ?

	Remember him ?
2-4-6-8 Motorway?, Glad to be gay etc.

He's not as popular now as he was back in the early 80's
but there are some die-hard fans (like myself) still around.
He's still playing quite a lot, usually low-key affairs
and without the backing of the Tom Robinson Band.

If you live in the following areas you can get to see him in
	the next 2 weeks :

June 1st	Loughborough University	(TR's Birthday)
	June 3rd	Oxford Polytechnic
	June 9th	Ipswich, Corn Exchange
June 10th	Manchester, Royal Northern College of Music
	June 14th	Sheffield, Leadmill
June 18th	Bracknell, South hill park Arts Centre

His gigs are well worth attending, good value for money.
Wait around after the show as he comes out to meet the people
that came to the gig. Tell him I said hello. (name dropper)

	Tony.

Yeah, I saw him in Reading two years ago, and it was a real grin
of a gig. Go and see him, even if you don't really know anything
about what he's up to these days.
Does anyone know if the place in Bracknell is anywhere near the
    railway station?

    Mike.

South hill park is about three miles from the statio in bracknell.

out of the station turn right, at roundabout turn right and follow
signs for Camberly and M3, across next round about, past petrol
station on right, across next roundabout, pass petrol station on
left, at next roundabout (Hilton national hotel on right) turn right
and right again so that you are on the other side of the hotel going
down a slight hill. South hill park is about 400 yards down the
road on the left. Easy huh..

I've just started reading the music notes recently, and its taken me
a while to reach the Tom Robinson note.
I've taken in a few gigs over the past few years, and each one has
been excellent.I first saw him at the Renfrew Ferry in Glasgow last
year as part of Mayfest, where he did a one man show.Later in the year
(November I think) he reformed the Tom Robinson band, and took in the
show at Strathclyde Uni (Cry Before Dawn were the support).A couple
of months ago he did a week long stint during the Edinburgh Fringe
(along with a keyboard player..can't remember her name),and this was
possibly the best I've seen.He did some of his old stuff "2,4,6,8",
"Martin","War Baby" etc,and numerous cover versions. He billed the
show as cabaret (showing his age!),and was well worth the journey
    through to the capital.
I believe he does this show most years through in Edinburgh,so I'm
already looking forward to next years!

    Andy.

Tom, and his band, also played at Reading Festival this year, and in 89.

I enjoyed last year more, but he's still good to go and see live. I think his
political etc "preaching" spoilt it this year.
