431.0. "Aquarium...Ruskie rock" by MALLET::MOXLEY (You're all washed up) Tue May 30 1989 20:21

    Did anyone catch the ITV proggy last night about the Russian rock
    band Aquarium?, it seems they were allowed out of Russia to go to
    the U.S, they teamed up with Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics, and
    did a concert tour of the USSR, they are also recording an album
    due for release next month.

    Boy, they were GOOD!, Dave Stewarts guitar is pretty mean, and the
    lead singer (Russian) manages to sing in acceptable English, no
    real accent there. The band with the execpetion of Dave are all
    Russian, nice to see the co-operation, could this be the start of
    something, lets hope so!

431.1I hate this!RAB::KARDONSomeone's been a bit untidyWed May 31 1989 00:0711
	I pretty much hate when this happens. I guess it's good that Russian
	bands get to release albums in the States/England...but do they have
	to go with a name producer and sing in English????

	How about letting them do their thing with a Russian producer (or at
	least someone not trying to 'change' their sound) in a decent studio?
	Let them be true to themselves.

	I'm waiting for Russian bands who sing in Russian.

431.2Loads of them.....WELMTS::GREENBStrangely strange but oddly normalWed May 31 1989 16:0111
    Apparently, Scott, there's thousands of bands who sing in Russian
    - you just got to go to Russia to hear 'em, though....... 8^)

    In the small part of the programme that I saw, I got the feeling
    that the producers, while not actually at odds with Boris, couldn't
    get the kind of sound he wanted. It seemed to me that he wanted
    a far more 'natural' sound than that which Dave and the others were
    getting for him. I think the word for their techniques could be
    'overproduction'.
