341.0. "Lyle Lovett anybody ?" by YUPPY::BENNETT (It's Late in the Evening...) Fri Feb 10 1989 16:31

    Anybody tell me anything about Lyle Lovett (sp?).

    I've been given a copy of an album by him (debut?).

    He plays a whole host of styles on this album very well, I
    say play, I believe he plays guitar as well as providing the vocals.
    It includes blues; R'n'B; country blues; Jazz(ish) and a couple
    of 'arf decent ballards. I think I may have heard one tune on the
    radio previously, it's openning lyric is:-
    "If I had a boat ..., If I had a mule ..." and so on.

    Thanx

    Graham ...

    The song you remember is infact "If I had a Boat" from the
    Album 'Pontiac' .It's a great album and is very much in the
    range of styles you described .

    I think he's got 3 albums out and Pontiac is the first or second

    Stuart .

    If he's half as good as he was when he was in Boston in March,
    you'll have a great time!!
341.12Lyle Lovette, Friend of the DevilCOMET::JENSENTWed Aug 05 1992 07:2410
       Have
    you seen the CD called Deadicated?

    It has a bunch of different bands doing their favorite Grateful Dead
    songs. Lyle Lovette does an excellent version of the Grateful Dead song
    called "Friend Of The Devil". I think it's better than the original by
    the Dead.

Lyle has just wed Julia Roberts, according to Radio 1. They
allegedly met while filming The Player, which is odd as they
don't appear in the film together, in fact their characters
exist at different reality levels...

(Spoilers for 'The Player')

(Julia Roberts appears in a film watched/produced by
Tim Robbins' character, who is being investigated by
detective Lyle Lovett.)

Re:-1,-2

"Tell me what you feel,
Not just what comes to mind..."

Julia Roberts apparently turned up on stage the other night
to introduce "My husband and his Large Band". Gag!
