293.0. "Christmas Concerts" by BISTRO::WARD () Tue Dec 13 1988 19:54

With Christmas looming and the threat of Paul Daniels ever more
imminent let's have a look back over the years at TV concerts
    over the festive period ...

    Here's some I remember ...

Blondie from Glasgow Apollo, New Year's Eve. I don't think the
support act showed so Debbie and co went at it for the whole
evening. The TV bit was the last 45 minutes .. hmm ..

Elton John from Maddison Square Garden (?). This was about 1975
and was I think a recording of a show earlier in the year - great.

King from Glasgow SECC, New Year's Eve. The show was stolen by
Jamie whathisface and his "tartan lassie" act.

    Any others ??

Van Morrison used to be in every Christmas (for at least two
    Christmases,anyway).

    Richard.

P.S. it was the 'too late to stop now' tour, I think.

Not exactly a concert, but I remember very well Bowies 'new' version
of Space Oddity on the Kenny (ugh) Everett New Year show about 8
    years back.

I'm not a *great* fan of TV concerts, you can't beat being there,
but it is nice to see musicians really playing as opposed to mimng
    or lipsynching.

Was the Dury concert the one where he played around with little
toys all the way through his set, and generally had a good time.
    I liked that one.
