247.0. "'In your Neigbourhood'" by IOSG::BARTLETT () Thu Oct 20 1988 13:48

Does anybody out there in TV-land know about a group called the
Neigbourhood? I woke up in the middle of Night Network a couple
of weeks back and heard a trak of their debut album which sounded
prety interesting, but so far I have been totaly unable to find
out anything about the group or album.

Iv'e tried the usual 'Our Price' shops and Tower Records at Picadilly
which is where I usually endup when I can't find something, but
to no avail. Niet, nadda, nothing.

There is a local band over on this [the western] side of the pond
that hails from Boston. They are called The Neighborhoods and were
at one time called Willie Alexander and The Neighborhoods. Willie
left to "make it big", never really did, and The Neighborhoods are
still around. I saw them once back in '78 or '79...they were quite
punkish/new waveish. Don't know much by them. Anybody?

BTW, Willie's got a new tune out that's getting some airplay over
    here.

    Re: Boston's own Neighborhoods

They released a single back in '79 (I think) entitled "Prettiest Girl".
That song is still on my all-time favorites list. Much ahead of its
    time, IMNSHO.

If you live in the Boston area, you can still buy this record. I think
I saw it in Newbury Comics on Newbury Street.

The 'Hoods are still kicking around the Boston area. They have released
two albums in the past two years, including a great song called "WUSA".
They still occasionally play the Boston clubs.

David Bowie is also a big fan of the Neighborhoods. He had them open up
for his show at Sullivan Stadium on his 'Glass Spiders' tour. Quite a feat
for an unsigned band to play to 60,000 people!

And I agree - "Prettiest Girl" is one of my all-time fave songs.
