201.1Farewell then ...MALLET::BARKERPretty Damn CosmicThu Sep 15 1988 13:308
So it _was_ that Robert Calvert.

There was an obituary in the Guardian a few days ago which mentioned play
writing and making 5 records but didn't mention Hawkwind.

He was 43, didn't mention cause of death.

201.2A bit more info from a Hawk' fanTRUCKS::STONEDistant, Alone, Beneath the platinum stars ...Thu Sep 15 1988 16:3917
> He was 43, didn't mention cause of death.

The obituary in the NME stated the cause of death as 'a massive Heart
attack' his wife, manager and friends denied the obvious rumours that
it was drug related saying that he hadn't taken drugs or alcohol for
      several years.

The Starfighter's played their last to gigs of the tour as benefits
for his family, with the possibility of Hawkwind doing likewise in the
      near future.

Bob will be dearly missed by his fans everywhere but his music will
continue to entertain and inspire people for years to come.

201.3I knew Him Well...SUBURB::DANCEAFreak Brother's Unite!Thu Sep 15 1988 21:5218
I will most definately miss Robert.

I have only heard one of the Starfighters albums and I thought it
    was totally amazing.

I have got many Hawkwind albums which I listen to regulary (Every
night on the way home from work, in fact).

It has been rumoured that he has recently finished a solo album,
but I'm not sure about release information as yet.

Also, its rumoured that Hawkwind will be playing again soon...So
you should be able to see them before Decemeber(?)

    Bye Robert - Good Luck!

I have heard through the grape vine that there will be a Hawkwind
benefit concert for Robert Calvert. It will feature all the old
members from Hawkwind (ie Lemmy, Nik Turner).

Do any of you music buffs out there know where/when/if this willtake
    place ?
If it does it will be one hell of a good gig !

    Matt.
201.5Dsicography - well sort of anyway...TRUCKS::STONEDistant, Alone, Beneath the platinum stars ...Fri Sep 16 1988 13:4635
There seems to be some confusion over Bob Calvert/Starfighters etc
Albums so Heres a list :-

Captain Lockheed & the Starfighters - The Starfighters etc ( not the
						same band thats been touring
						though)

Lucky Leif & The Longships - The Longships etc

Hype (Songs of Tom Mahler) - The Tom Mahler Band

Freq - Solo Album (Tapes from the Miners
						strike with related songs)

Test Tube Conceived - Solo Album

There was also A Book of The Album 'Hype' all about the fictitious Tom
Mahler, and a stage play of the same name with Tom Mahler played by Bob
and various members and ex-members of Hawkwind in it.

Also a Book of poetry called 'Centigrade 232' (I think - Fahrenheit 451
	in Centigrade anyway!).

The two books are now both out of print - the poetry one was published
by 'Quasar' not sure about 'Hype' though.

The 'Starfighters' album has been Re-released in its original Gatefold
sleeve, as has 'Lucky Leif', I've also seen 'Freq' and 'T,T,Conceived'
on CD as well as on Album.

hope this helps a few of you, if you have any more questions either
post a reply here or Mail me.

				cheers Graham.
