194.0. "Back Door" by MLNAD1::TURNER (Got my mojo workin'...) Fri Sep 09 1988 16:09

I'm looking for information (for a friend) on a British band called
Back Door (or is that Backdoor?). I think they were formed in the
'70s and one of the most distinctive things about them was their
line-up: drums, bass and sax. That's about all I know.
Can anyone give me any help?

    		Regards,
    			Dom

I remember Back Door - just. They did have a very unusual line up.
The Bass player played like a rhythm guitarist and they threatened
to be quite big in the jazz-rock scene for a time. Then after the
first album they added extra musicians and it was never quite the
same again. They faded quite quickly. Did 2 or 3 albums in total,
I think. First one was called 'Back Door'.

That bass player was *amaaaaaaaayzing* man, as we used to say back
then. Was his name Colin Hodgkinson? Anyway, that old bugger nearly
provoked me into putting my bass down for good (but not quite)

if it was Colin "Bomber" Hodgkinson, he was the bass player for
Whitesnake for a brief spell, around 1983 (ish).

Yep, the main thing about this band was Hodgkinson's full chording
techniques - he was reckoned to be one of the best. Apparantly,
their first album was so good, it was hard to follow up.
