146.0. "International Resque" by SUBURB::DALLISON (efilecinaevah) Thu Jul 14 1988 20:43

    Anybody heard/seen INTERNATIONAL RESCUE ??

they're an up-and-coming band, based in Reading who gig around the
southern area. Just released a single called something like "Perfect
Love" (I could be wrong about the title).

For all you Reading people, they get quite a bit of airplay from
    Radio 210.

    -Tony

BTW - they're not Heavy Metal B4 you ask.....:-)

Opps, sorry about the spelling, I've changed the note title accordingly.

> I can't comment on the band though 'cos one of the members
> 'Old Man' is also my manager !?!

You must mean Mark Lyons ( IR lead guitarist and my guitar tutor).

> Would ' "POP" out and buy the record ' be a big enough hint though ?

I guess it boils down to what your definition of pop is. I heard
the single the other day and was impressed, and I HATE pop music.

146.3A 'live' review ?SUBURB::OAKLEYMYou're a liar, Charlie Brown!Fri Jul 15 1988 15:1513

I saw them play Reading town hall about a month ago. They were
definitely the best of the three bands there that night. I don't
know about 'pop', live they sound more like a late 70's 'ska' band
even a weenie bit like 'Bad Manners'. I've heard the single and that's
obviously been watered down (aren't all singles) and it's probably
there 'Poppiest' song, others have titles like 'Junk Food' and
    'Hobbies'.

I don't know how well there records will do but live they're a good
fun band to see. (lots of running about and jumping around)

International resque, a good fun band. Agree with .-1 bit of a rave
    from the past type stuff.

I ran into a band, not literally, back in about '83.
They were called International Rescue (I assumed that how rescue
was spelt) A mate of mine was lighting them, and they were playing
the 'Porterhouse' in Retford (locally known as the Slaughterhouse,
but I think they cleaned the place up a bit, a cockney guy called
Sammy something or other used to run it, they used(do?) get some
good bands there, (bit like the Outlook in Doncaster in my wild
days). Anyway are these the same guys, I thought they all came
from Bridlington in Yorks, (no not bleeding Humberside!). I wondered
what happened to them, they were pretty damn good, they were supporting
some chart famous bunch of arseoles that night.

Could it be? Or did the reading band call themselves I. Resque
'cos there's allready a band call'd I. Rescue? These guys had
definately cut some vinyl, so maybe that's the reason. Or maybe
not. Anyone known 'em well enough to find out?

I saw these guys playing the MAJESTIC in Reading a few weeks
back and was impressed so for the benifit of the watching world,
I've got hold of a few facts that may be of interest to anyone who
hears about them or who have already seen them live.

    Line-up:
                     DAVE SIMMONS- VOCALS.
                     TIM BANKS - PERCUSSION.
MARK LYONS - GUITAR. - HE WHO WEARS THE DRESS!!
                     WEZ BOYNTON - DRUMS.
                     ROG WELLS - BASS.

They released the 1st single "love in the right direction" back
in mid-87,dont ask me how it did cos I dont know!

    They have supported STUMP,HIGHLINERS,CHESTERFIELDS,CROPDUSTERS,
AND BUDDY CURTESS AND THE GRASSHOPPERS.They will be touring with
the "STONE ROSES" in June but before then they have a date with
the MARQUEE in London and have a new single out in September so
    watch out for it!

If you want to know the style, well, its a mixture of Maddness and
the Stay Cats and comes over really well. They did a 30 min set
and didnt stop moving about the stage, one hellava lot of energy
    involved here!

If anyone wants more info, try Stevie Robbins @ 15 Coventry Rd,
    Reading Berks.

Please could you be less abstract in this conference, I suspect that
your note will mean little to the majority of noters in this conference.
Oh, and do keep up the lower case, it looks a lot more professional.

Does anyone remember the time when IR supported the Chesterfields? Ir
got to play their full hour set and the Chesterfields had the power
pulled on them about twenty minutes into their's. They were NOT happy
    campers....
