Good to hear that he's still kicking...I was born and lived in
England until '79 and he was a fave of mine, believe it or not...

Never hear a peep about him over here in the States, though...thought
he might have just died away...faded out...I still have a couple
of his albums...on the Bell record label.

How about Alvin Stardust? Or David Essex? Hmmm..who else was hot
then...Leo Sayer? Or Slade? Oh gosh..the memories!

Who is hot in the UK now?

Here in the US it's a lot of heavy metal garbage...Bruce Springsteen
    and Michael Jackson...

Okay , i knew i was taking my life in my hands when i said that
i actually enjoyed him in concert, but its true. Both times the
concerts were in Glasgow - one in Tiffany's and the other was as
part of a bill which included the Damned (this was at Glasgow Uni's
Mad March Ball...anyone remember them ?????)

No-one took the music seriously , but both times he gave his all
and everyone appreciated it, as we knew as well as he did that it
    was all one big p*ss-take.

Leo Sayer is still about and recently toured. I think Simply Red's
Mick Hucknall owes a fair bit to Sayer's style.

Slade still play live, and I reckon that David Essex still tours

jeans and a broken voice .But you know what ,,, the crowd loved
him ,I think the band couldn't believe how much they were liked.

    feeling sentimental...

What the hell is Wet Wet Wet? What type of music? George Michael
is pretty popular here in the States too. I am quite impressed
with his album. A good "pop" band from the UK is Dead or Alive.
Very popular music in the dance clubs over here. I saw them in

The Bay City Roller's were part of the 'All Night Toga Party' at
Manchester University last June. Like with most of these bands still
doing the circuit the line-up was different with a girl sharing
lead vocals. Did all the old songs etc. Interesting enough 'Wet,
Wet Wet' were supposed to be playing but pulled out due to a TV
commitment. Also Kenny Ball and his jazz men were there.

A friend saw Sweet at one of the halls of residence in Manchester

are they trying to call Sweet nowadays?

Does anyone know whatever happened to Mungo Jerry ?

These notes really bring back SOME memories. What about
Shawaddywaddy? I still have some of their records (Groan)
Mud were ok and I liked Wizzard too. Is The Steve Gibbons
Band still around ? I went to a concert of theirs at
Bracknell Sports Centre in 1977/78, cant remember exactly
    when.

I have to say that there were really some fun groups around
in the 1970's. Does anyone remember "Sparks" the guy on the
    keyboard was so cool?

    Shwaddywaddy! Now there's a memory! Whoa...and Mud...This is becoming
quite the trip down memory lane. Hot Chocolate was also going at
the time I was there...and Slade.

It's good to see that Bryan Ferry is still going...Roxy Music was
quite a group...AH...Ferry and his "Casblanca" look...Ferry caught
on over here recently with a couple of singles (i.e. - "Right Stuff")
    - did that catch on over there?

Also - before George Michael left Wham!, and before they became
Wham!, was WhamUK popular there? Or did it take there change to
be "Americanized" until they caught on?

Sweet are billed as "Brian Connelly's Sweet" .They do all the
hits and a few covers (wild thing ,and things such as ).Not much
'glam' nowadays more heavy rock with some thrash guitar thrown in
and lots of posing (apart from Brian who can't move around too much
due to his jeans so just shakes his head a bit !!)

Mud are still clubin round the country and so I think are Showaddywaddy
I think .Both ,the last I heard ,are still well worth a listen .I
did see the 'waddy many years ago and they were brilliant .Had us

Michelle,

Wet Wet Wet are a band from Clydebank near Glasgow. They recently topped
the charts here with a cover version of the Beatles "Little help from my
friends" which some say is even better than the Beatles.

They have just released a single in the States " Wishing I was lucky"
which was their first hit here in UK. They have one album at the moment
called "Moved in(?) - souled out" which includes hits like "Temptation"
"Sweet Little Mystery, Angel Eyes etc"

Yes, I remember Jim'll fix it. Edmunds was Noel, quite cute, used
to work at Radio 1 too - don't know if he still does. Do you remember
Kenny Evert of Capital Radio? Talking of memories, what about the
Goodies? I can always remember a sketch taking the **** out of Tony
Blackburn - they called him Tony Blackbum !! And what about Fawlty
    Towers?

Perhaps we should open a notes file for Trips down Memory Lane?

It's a pity that tomorrow is my last day at Digital. I'm on my
way back to England to spend a couple of months doing nothing.

But for those of you who continue, perhaps it would be a good
idea to open a file re. Memory Lane. I don't know about you
other Brits overseas, but I really miss England sometimes, and
reading these notes and remembering all these old programmes
and groups really takes me back a long way. It's great!!

Hope that you lot continue having fun. I certainly have.

You bet. When 'Itchycoo Park' by the Small Faces was a hit for the second time
around a few years ago they had this _amazing_ routine with giant toadstools
and pixy costumes. I presume that this was their choreographers idea of
something psychedelic. Flick Colby was that the choreographers name?
