| You say you are "DEAF", were you deaf prior to your visit to the gig?
If so then I don't think I'll take much notice of your extatic review as it
could be miss-leading ;-)

JJ, Saw Johnny in the Half moon in putney a while back. Excellent
and loud muzik. He didnt have a vast quantity of widgets on his harp
when i saw him tho, must have made a few bob since then. BTW are
there any albums, I had never heard of him before and had forgotten
the Name of the band until you jogged my memory.

| The BBC compilation album "Blues On 2", made up from live sessions
taken from Paul Jones' Thursday night Radio 2 prog, has a Johnny
Mars track on it - I think it's "Born Under A Bad Sign", although
I'm not certain. I don't know if he's recorded anything else, I'll
look in my Virgin Megamail book tonite and post titles tomorrow
- if they exist.
I can recommend the "Blues On 2" album, though.

| Not heard of any albums, I think they're playing in
Surbiton again soon (someone has to) so if I go I'll
collar one of the band and demand tapes...

Blues On 2 is available through any record shop. It's on the standard
BBC catalogue, which I don't think the Peel Sessions were - I think
another label bought the rights to those session tapes. Seek out Blues
On 2, the opening track is a superb Rory Gallagher number, and sets
the scene for 45 mins of good blues from such as Blues 'n' Trouble,
The Balham Alligators, and of course Mars; quality is good also, as you'd
expect from live Beeb sessions.
The only Johnny Mars album listed in my Virgin catalogue is titled
"The Mars/Fenwick Band", available on LP and cassette at #5.49.

| I saw the Johnny Mars Blues Band last weekend in Chelmsford
'kin' brilliant, that harp is a real weird one pre-amp and vol'
control on the all-in-1 mike/amp hand set.
Can't remember the name of the guitarist - a bit special though,
I've seen him before, I think it was with Ian Dury and the Musik
Students. (I saw Wilko Johnson and ex Ian Dury bass player on the
same bill).
Playing a Charvel through a distorted Session amp gave a
different feel to the 'blues'. I didn't like it that much but
technically the guy was great.
