69.0. "Unsung Heros?" by OFFCLU::MMCMULLIN () Mon May 16 1988 18:09

    	Here in Ireland we have some musicians/bands who are very popular
    nationally but not internationally. Some examples are Paul Brady,
    Mary Coughlan & Mary Black. These artists sell quite a lot of records
    (mostly LP's). Are there any such artists in the U.K.(Europe) who produce
    good music but who don't have hit singles. The reason I ask this
    is to find some 'real' music among all the 'POP' drivel that is about
    in the charts ( with some exceptions ).

    	I bought the latest Mary Coughlan CD 2 weeks ago, it's very
    	prominent amongst the Jazz new releases at WOM in Munich, and
    	I'm sure I've heard one of the tracks several times on the
    	pop radio stations, so she must be selling a few in Germany.

    	P.S. It's a great album, and I especially liked her version
    	of 'The Laziest Girl in Town'.
69.3Two more...ERIC::SALLITTDave @RKG or LZOTue May 24 1988 14:249
    Try Clive Gregson & Christine Collister as well; their records are
    catalogued under Folk and they play folk clubs, but their music is
    more in the modern "electric folk" vein, sort of anglicised US folk/blues.

    They have two albums to my knowledge, "Home & Away" which is a live
    sessions compilation, and "Mischief" which is a studio job. Both
    albums are superb, check them out and you won't be disappointed.
