63.0. "Snooker Music" by LARVAE::BRIGGS (They use computers don't they?) Tue May 10 1988 13:33

Who plays the theme music used for BBC Snooker programs? I think
its a real neat piece of guitar work. Any info on the artist
    appreciated.

I haven't watched snooks for a while, but if it's the tune they
use in the evening (slow synth), then this is Vangelis. The song
is "To the unknown man" from the LP "Spiral". Someone out there
must know the above mentioned track, so can it be confirmed?

Don't know what it is, but it certainly isn't 'To the unknown man'
    by Vangelis.

It's a tune from Eric Clapton's "Slowhand" album - the title escapes
me but I'll look at home tonight. I don't know if it's the original
or an instrumental version done for TV, as the TV bit doesn't last
    long.

It's definetly not 'slow synth'. Funky guitar morelike. If it is
Clapton then I'm amazed (yet again) that I can hear a superb piece
of guitar playing and find out later its by Clapton. It really does
go to show these guys DO stand out from the crowd.

This has prompted my curiosity more about this piece. Is it Clapton?
    What is it called?

On Clapton, What about Edge of Darkness? I loved that music. Is
it available on CD in some form or other? Any opinions?

At the time the series was shown, the BBC claimed the music was
available on LP, but I never found it in any record shop I tried.
    They didn't mention CD.

re my .3, the track is "The Core" from EC's "Slowhand" album, the
title of the track came to me over an inspirational salad lunch:-).
Usually all that's featured in the snooks progs is the first few
opening bars; after those comes EC himself with Yvonne Elliman <sp?>.

A great album that has some of his best material between the covers.

reply .5, I bought the Twelve inch single of the Edge Of Darkness
there is about 20 mins worth of musical excellence, Michael Kamen
and 'our Eric' make a great team.

Just a point Clapton, Kamen and David Sanborn teamed up to record
the soundtrack to 'Lethal Weapon' last year. I'm sure there must
be a soundtrack album but I haven't got it yet.

    Dave.
