656.0. "DSW42 support on VMS 7.1" by KERNEL::VERNOND () Thu May 22 1997 13:13

    Hi,

A customer has heard that DSW42 cards are not supported under VMS 7.1
and DECnet Plus. Is this true?

I haven't been able to locate any information on this and would
appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.

    Thanks,

I am not product management... but the DECnet-Plus V7.1 OpenVMS VAX
SPD 25.03.42 makes it very clear that a DSW42 is supported.

Untrue. The DSW2x/4x are supported under OpenVMS V7.1 and DECnet-Plus V7.1.

So where did your customer hear this little gem?

Thanks for your replies, I've had a quick chat with the customer and it
turns out that they were actually asking about the support from VMS 5.5-2
to VMS 7.1 and sync cards.

What they heard from Teressa Morley, Bank of Kuwait was that she believed
    some configurations to be unsupported.

I apologise, as I took this call off a collegue, and so didn't get the
whole story. A case of chinese wispers.

    Again, thanks.

Some configurations are unsupported (e.g. MicroVAX 3100 Model 85, Model
96, Model 88, Model 98). Basically, if it is not in the SPD, it is
unsupported. There may be some work happening in the future to add
support (i.e. if I can get the hardware, I'll do the testing ...
donations and loans gratefully accepted :-)
