SUBJECT: Announcing WebSentry. Use this system to monitor and test 
         WWW applications.

WebSentry is an application that is used to simulate user interaction with
Web pages. Thus WebSentry can be used to

   * Automatically and continuously monitor web applications to ensure that
     the application is up and running as expected.
   * Perform system testing and regression testing of Web application.
   * Perform stress testing and performance testing of Web applications.

This application is provided free of charge for Digital Internal Use Only.

It is currently in Field test and so your feedback during this period
is appreciated.

The system is written in Java and thus you will need the Java Run Time
installed in order to use it.

More detailed information on WebSentry follows.

Using the WebSentry's simple script language, the user writes a set of Web
interaction instructions to be executed. These instructions could be, for
example, to download a specified URL, fill out a form and submit it.

When WebSentry is started it reads the script file and for each program
segment of the script file it creates a thread containing a set of user
interactions to execute. After all threads are created they continue to
execute their instruction set in a cyclical manner until the WebSentry
process is killed.

If any of the user interaction instructions result in an error then a mail
message is sent to a designated set of users to inform them that there is a
problem that needs to be fixed. In this way one can be instantly alerted to
any problems with their web applications or pages and thus take appropriate
corrective action.

WebSentry is a JAVA application that was developed at the DIGITAL European
Software Center, Galway.
