| Has a standard MIME type evolved for Excel, Word, etc. Glancing around
the web, it looks like everyone has defined their own, with very little
standardization.
Also, MS Explorer doesn't associate a MIME type with Excel
spreadsheets. What does it do? Just go by the file type.
And, to contribute a little in exchange - MS Explorer doesn't
understand the the syntax of the embed tag listed earlier in this
string. Another good argument for Netscape?

| application/msword has been standard for Word documents for quite a
while. Excel is now covered in a new "application/vnd" family as
application/vnd.ms-excel. application/powerpoint picked up some steam
as a de-facto but "illegal" standard for Powerpoint, but the new "vnd"
family also includes application/vnd.ms-powerpoint . I guess what you
can expect is a bit of chaos for a while.
