863.0. "Cluster Install Help Please" by CHEFS::vfr750.reo.dec.com::harrisonb () Fri Jun 06 1997 05:36

Hi I'm supporting an installation of Clusters by telephone.

The engineer has installed Clusters and all the services run on one node,
however on the other node the Cluster Failover manager service does not start.

The log from that machine follows, I have made sure he has set up the clusteradmin acct
and also put in the right password, even to the point of re-doing it in the services startup
section.

Anyone seen this ??

863.1RA 310 problem ??CHEFS::vfr750.reo.dec.com::harrisonbFri Jun 06 1997 09:50128
We've moved on a bit, I asked him to uninstall, clean out the
registry and then re-install.

All the services now start, however when you start the cluster
administrator it complains about not being able to set the log disk,
and also about quorum.

The logs follow, any ideas ??

   Did you run CLUIVP ?

   Is the RA310 configured at the end of the bus ? Keep in mind
   that the RA310 supplies termination at the end of the differential
   segment.

   Do you have HSZDISK installed ? Is the HSZ20 configured to
   support Windows NT (i.e. HOST_FUNCTION_ID = "D" ?

863.3CHEFS::vfr750.reo.dec.com::harrisonbFri Jun 06 1997 10:3714
No I haven't run CLUIVP.

I believe the bus is setup right (I'm doing this over the phone, so I can't personally
verify this) - however without clusters on there he could partition, format & set up
the drive letters on the RA310, so I assume he's done this right.

He has v3.2 of HSZDISK, which loads as it sees the 2 raidsets. Host functionality is set
to D.

any more ???

Cheers Brynn.

  Never assume anything with respect to SCSI based clusters.

  imo, run cluivp and make sures it passes before moving forward.
