745.0. "Cluster & ServerWorks" by NNTPD::"schwemerf@mail.dec.com" (Frank Schwemer) Thu Apr 17 1997 13:39

What I'm looking for (for two customers) are some possibilities to check for
components in the cluster and to create a failover without using the standard
way.

Example:

I'm working with ServerWorks and a cluster on two 2100 to monitor both
machines.
Then I want to generate a trap if the main LAN-adapter (FDDI) fails. This trap
should now automatically run a batch on the cluster which manually fails over
a specific group.
So the question is: how can I combine these two products to have a failover
occur due to a ServerWorks trap ?

If you have any idea how to do this or how to configure batch-job's to monitor
an event which cannot be monitored by the cluster-software and then to
automatically failover a specific group - PLEASE LET ME KNOW !!!

Thank's a lot

Look at cluxfer.exe. This is a utility you can call in a command file
to perform a failover.

And with ServerWorks v3 (currently in fieldtest) you can launch
an application (which you can define yourself what this is) that
	executes automatically.
This application could be a tool from the resourcekit that can
be used to execute a command remote. Like the cluxfer.exe.
Could be done from a management station or from the server itself.
Depending of course where you sent the traps to and where you
	installed the ServerWorks console.
