742.0. "Help, IP engineering group " by ZPOVC::SOONHENG () Wed Apr 16 1997 12:15

Our customer has recently bought Cluster V1.1 and is now running
IIS Web Server 2.0 and NNTP services under IIS. This NNTP ( Network
News Transport Protocol ) is from Micrsoft MCIS ( Micrsoft commercial
    internet Services) software.

I hvae tested and ensure that the IIS Web service is all functioning
by browsing the cluster from an external client and doing a failover.
    The IP failover works well.

all the above cause the floating IP address to receive request.
e.g ftp "floating Ip address" means IP is receiving ftp request.

The NNTP services customer installed required the floating IP address
to send info. But, the problem now is that external client can only
receive info from the Ethernet IP address and not floating IP address.
This is because packet goes out thru' a physical link which is
    associate with the Ethernet address.

How could we ensure that info is arriving from the floating IP address
    ?

One solution I thought of was to enable/disable the NIC via software.
This could be done easily via ASE UNIX environment. How could we do
    it in NT environment ?

    re .0

One can route IP within a NT box with 2 NIC's. NT suppots this.

Maybe you want to try this out ...
