722.0. "Failover on WAN (NT clust V1.1)?" by DEKVC::CHANGKYOOYI () Mon Mar 31 1997 07:27

Hello,

I'd like to know that 'Cluster name alias' failover supported on WAN
(which is a different subnet of server and client) with NT cluster V1.1.
Is it also possible to IP failover on WAN environments......

Please inform me details....regards, Changkyoo.

	'Cluster name alias' failover for WAN in an IP environment is
	supported in V1.1. But let's qualify this. (More detailed
	information is throughout this conference.) IP failover defines
	a 'floating' IP address. The name associated with that IP address
	is defined in your DNS. When a service associated with the floating
	IP address fails, for example a web server, the IP address and its
	name are then assigned to the other node. Clients that use a Winsocket
	connection then get their information from the other node. IP failover
	is for applications using Winsockets, not for file services.
