719.0. "Problem with cluster client upgraded from 1.0A to 1.1" by IJSAPL::ONDERWATER (Cor Onderwater @UTO) Fri Mar 28 1997 07:11

After installing Digital Clusters for Windows NT 1.1 I installed
the 1.1 client software on two 1.0 clients (Windows 95). After this
    step
the client can connect to a clustershare served from either
cluster member. When I try to connect a second cluster share served
by the same server (being either the primary or the failover server)
it works fine. However when trying to connect to a cluster share
served by the second server the following error appears:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
The following error occurred whike trying to connect
    E: to \\holland\diskg

The computer or sharename could not be found. Make sure you
typed it correctly, and try again
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Both former 1.0 clients show the same problem.
It makes no difference when I start with the second server, then I
cannot resove references to the first server.
Connections via the individual server names wor OK.
When I start with a fresh W95 system, load the 1.1 client, there is
    no ploblem.
After removing registry entries, uninstall/reinstall the problem was
    still there.
After deleting and reinstalling all the netwok stuff on one of the
clients the problem disappeared, but reappeared again.

It looks as if the clustername resolution is done only once.

    Any ideas ????????

Question - you stated that when you did a clean install of the v1.1.
client everything was ok - Am I correct?

There are several registry keys that are changed during
install/uninstall. You mentioned that you hand edited the registry - am
I correct? That's no guarantee since you may have missed several keys
    that had to be changed.

I'm going to ask if you could give me the following pieces of info.
First in you windows\system directory would you please tell me the date
and size of the dclnamc.vxd both you when do a clean install and when
you install (upgrade) over a previously installed cluster kit. Also in the
registry after doing both the clean install and the upgrade would you
please check on the following registry key values?
    1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Vxd\DCLNAMC
    	should have 2 values 1) start = 0
    			     2) StaticVxD = "dclnamc.vxd"
    2)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\DigitalCluster\
      NetworkProvider
    	should have 4 "important" values 1) CallOrder = 1
    					 2) Name = DigitalCluster
    					 3) NetID = 0x0,,, 300 (768)
    					 4) ProviderPath = clunsapi.dll
    3)HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\NetworkProvider\Order
should have 3 values (or more if you have more network redirectors)
    	in the following order
    	1) Default = value not set
    	2) DigitalCluster
    	3) MSNP32

Please let me know what you find. I'm getting suspicious about the
installing of the client if it works when you do a clean install but
not if you are just upgrading.

    >>> Question - you stated that when you did a clean install of the v1.1.

clean means a new installation of Windows 95 and a clusters 1.1 installation
not preceded by a 1.0 client installation.

You are right, no garantee at all. At last I followed the information
in the 1.1 documentation on what registry entries to delete manually, no
    success.

    Remark 1:
When I reinstalled the Windows 95 network stuff (Situation A) I
retained the newer version of c:\windows\system\ndis.vxd
    (97 kb, 8/28/96 11:50 AM)
    Remark 2:
In the 1.0 time I have repaced a file on the cluster clients because of
an error with "find" in the explorer (explorer hangs).
    Remark 3:
clunsapi files are the same (situation A and B)
    Remark 4:
The two problem clients are the only clients I upgraded to version 1.1
(An installation over de 1.0 version). Maybe a deinstall of version
    1.0 makes a difference?
    Remark 5:
At this moment all my clients are working. As soon as the problem
reappers again (it happened once) I will gather all possible information.

    Thanks,
