708.0. "ClusterAdmin problem - cluster services not started" by LEMAN::DYSLI (Pierre J. Dysli @GEO - SBU Technology Advisory) Fri Mar 21 1997 13:08

ClusterAdmin problem - cluster services not started

Having configured an NT Domain with PDC outside the cluster,
I have encountered the following problem with ClusterAdmin account :

When rebooting cluster servers after NT cluster V1.1 installation, I get
the message box on each server about services not started. The Event Viewer
shows cluster services not started because of improper logon rights on
     each specific machine.

In order to get cluster services start up automatically I have to redefine
the cluster services startup logon account on each server !

     My configuration :

     	- 2 clusters in the NT Domain, cluster members are not BDC

     	- ClusterAdmin account defined at PDC level belongs to Domain Admin,
     	  Admin and has logon-as-a-service right

     	- NT cluster V1.1 installation from ClusterAdmin account on each server

Is this a normal behavior for cluster members who are not simultaneously
BDCs ? It is as if logon-as-a-service is not automatically granted to
the ClusterAdmin account for each machine in the NT Domain.

I have never seen a note requiring that cluster members must be BDC,
nor seen that logon-as-a-service is granted per machine ! Have I missed
     something in the doc ?

     Regards

     	Pierre

The "login as a service" problem is described in the 1.1 release notes.

I am not sure will this reply be a bit late. Basically, you need to
ensure clusteradmin is both a domain administrator and must be able
to log on as a service. I got this same problem before.

The problem is that it fails even whith the mentionned rights, as
stated in the release notes (4.11 Logon Rights Occasionally Granted
    Improperly) !

    Thanks !
