696.0. "Office document paths don't recognise cluster resources" by NETRIX::"moore@stl.dec.com" (Adrian Moore) Tue Mar 18 1997 22:26

Hi,

Under Word 95 and Word 97 if you set the Tools | Options | File Locations
Documents path to a cluster path it is ignored when saving files.

Is there a fix for this behaviour? The problem is that the user home
directories are on the cluster alias and the customer expectation is that
the product would be seamlessly integrated into the existing site
( unrealistic... but a fix would be nice ).

Thanks & regards,
Adrian Moore

this is a known problem that has been reported in PTR. No solution yet,
    though.

Hi,

How do we find out about PTR cases which are fixed? Must I gain access to the
PTR database?

For this particular problem: Is it an issue we should locally raise with
Microsoft? Are THEY calling the wrong API, or similar? The reason I ask this
question is that the same client has reported Microsoft Internet Explorer
v3.0 also appears to be brain dead when it comes to loading files off a
cluster
share. I've checked Netscape Navigator 3.0 and it works. The customer has a
file-share based intranet and so sees this, too, as an issue. Incidentally
they
claim this problem existed with a PathWORKS server too. It looks like the same
behaviour as MSOffice.

Thanks & regards,
Adrian Moore

696.7Resolution to this problemNNTPD::"brynn@vfr750.reo.dec.com"Brynn HarrisonFri May 23 1997 10:4812
Has there been a resolution to this isssue of not being able to set
the default save directory in word to a cluster share ? I have a customer
who needs an answer, he is on V1.0 SP2.

Also he wants to know why, when he opens a document in word, it comes up
on the screen and then waits a couple of seconds before changing the hourglass
back to an arrow.

Is this a known issue ??
