631.0. "STOP: 0x0000000a during reboot" by UTRTSC::GEBUSIA () Tue Feb 18 1997 08:08

    Hi,

Our customer has 2 Alpha 1000 with KZPSA controllers.
    Windows NT 3.51 SP5.
    NT Clusters Software 1.0 SP1.
    The following problem:
One of the systems is busy to copy data from a local disk to the
cluster disk on the shared SCSI bus. The second system is rebooted at
    this time.
During booting he crashes with the following STOP code:

    STOP: 0x0000000a (0x00000000,0x00000003,0x00000000,0x80045470)
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

It only occures if there is some activity on the shared SCSI.
Both controllers have different scsi addresses: 6 and 7.
The latest driver deckzpsx.sys v1.30 was installed.
It doesn't matter if it is warm or cold reboot.
    The failover works without problems.

    Has anybody seen this ?

    Any suggestions, please.

It's not available because it still in qual. The responsible

       SYMPTOM:

Two problems have been reported which have been addressed
in the new version 1.41 of the deckspsx.sys driver for
Windows NT on Alpha platforms with KZPSA installed. The
first fix addresses crashes(the infamous "blue screen") seen
during a warm restart of the system. The second fix
corrects a problem that would prevent crash dumps being
written to the system disk if the KZPSA is in the boot path
or path to the specified dump disk. See the "PROBLEM
            STATEMENT:" section below for details.

       SOLUTION:

If you are seeing either of these problems, you should
download and install the new version 1.41 deckzpsx.sys
driver for Windows NT/Alpha. This driver has been qualfied
under Windwos NT version 3.51 and 4.0. You can get the
required installation files at the following locations:

            * via DECNET at

                    SUBSYS::PROJ1:[HBA.PZA.PUBLIC.NT.ALPHA.V141]

            * via the Digital Intranet at URL

                    http://osfsrv.shr.dec.com/abc_se/

Make sure you read the file README.TXT that comes with the
distribution for instructions on how to install this new
            driver.

       VERIFICATION:

Repeat steps used to replicate the symptoms you have been
    seeing,
and verify they have been eliminated by the driver.

       PROBLEM STATEMENT:

The following problems have been resolved in v1.41 of
    DECKZPSX.SYS

1.) WNT system crashes (blue screen) during warm reboot.
This problem is the result of spurious interrupts during
the warm reboot prior to driver initialization of various
            internal structures and pointers.

Solution: the interrupt handler was modified to avoid accessing
critical structures/pointers prior to their initialization.

2.) Crash dumps to the system disk will not occur if the KZPSA
is in the boot path (or the path to the specified dump disk).
During the dump operation, DECKZPSX receives a smaller amount
of memory than requested for use as its communications area
            with its target hardware.

Solution: The driver was modified to work correctly with a
    smaller
memory allocation in this case; should the normal request ever
    fail
during a normal WNT boot, an Event Log entry is generated.
