622.0. "Beta 1.1 Info, please" by NEWVAX::MURRAY (New Solgan now is, WHATEVER!) Sat Feb 15 1997 15:04

    Hi,
I got a crash course on NT-Clusters (beta 1.1) this week, went up
to learn about Exchange, inherited much more, but its good stuff. Its a
Large Government facility covering the country. Seems I'll be doing some
traveling, starting last Tuesday, for a few weeks to come. Now to the
point, I'm looking for whatever NT-Clusters beta 1.1 documentation you
have. I've looked thru the notes, and the best I found was the Labs and
PreTest. Perhaps you can mail me a pointer?

In another area, I ran into a problem on the sixth set of the
NT-Clusters we were installing, yeah the last one of course, right
after Bob G. ran out on me :). The two raid (RAID310) set drives,
while once appearing, went into the Off-Line state. Also, I couldn't
run Cluster Admin, because a quorum couldn't be reached. Needless to
say I punted (re-installed). In the process of re-installing one
system found the raidset's fine (for awhile), the other never seemed to
pick them up again (like when NT install asks for the system partition)
even when I powered cycled everything. Now remember, at one point they
'both' saw the raid drives, cause Disk Administrator showed them Off-Line.
They were formatted for NTFS (note we did this in a production line
style, so I didn't do 'everything'), and this is the topper - it was an
unsupported configuration (as Bob G. informed me) of a PDC, BDC.
However, and perhaps unfortunately, we had a PDC, BDC config working
right next to the one which wouldn't. Basically the steps I used
were NT Install, format raidsets to NTFS (in this case it had already
been done, lots of cooks in the kitchen I guess), Lock the drive letters,
    NT SP2 install, replace OLEPRO32.DLL - Aic87xx.sys, HSZINSTL, SWCC
install, Cluster Install (create cluster on one, join cluster on second)
which worked or appeared too. Note: Bios and Firmware were already
upgraded by another individual, I also checked the versions off the
working clusters, they were the same. I suppose the hardware could
have died on me? Did I miss something? Any other trouble shooting
    hints?
