456.9need counter to Tandem's claimsFIREBL::LEEDSFrom VAXinated to AlphaholicWed May 28 1997 15:1215
We are no running into Tandem a lot in the NT Cluster arena. I got the
attached from a Sales Rep who almost had a deal closed for a number of
AlphaServers running Digital NT Clusters, now they are leaning towards
Tandem.

Do we have any real technical scoop on what they're offering (especially
around the "dual SCSI path" statement) ?

"They have been shown a Wolfpack add-on product from Tandem that they claim
 could be superior to ours. It claims to enable them to have a dual SCSI path
 to a single controller from the host. "

	Get in contact with the PMs so they can inform you what we
	have cooking. (On top of Wolfpack as well)

	Since this is an add-on to Wolfpack, I do hope that they
	are aware that this is something that they can only have:

	Somewhere Fall 1997
	As part of Windows NT Enterprise.

	Digital NT Clusters can be had today.

    Our StorageWorks people are working on an NT driver to allow dual-path
    SCSI connections to our StorageWorks RAID controllers. It's not
    connected to cluster software, but does eliminate another "single point
    of failure". Don't know what Tandem has for SCSI controllers.

    I'll be evaluating Conley Corp's SafePath product with DC and WP in the
    next few weeks. SafePath purports to offer dual path connections to
    arrays in a clustered environment.

456.13in Wolfpack beta2?HERON::ras5.vbe.dec.com::lalliSomewhere in EuropeMon Jun 02 1997 19:388
In some Wolfpack presentation I saw a note about the dual-SCSI
attachment being supported in Beta 2. I haven't seen it in the
documentation though.

Anybody else?

456.14FTdisk vs Dual SCSI attachmentAEOENG::16.40.240.154::annecy::lehyTue Jun 03 1997 04:0329
According to the Wolfpack Beta 2 release notes, FTDisk is/will be
supported. ( 1.2 in the release notes)

What is Dual SCSI attachment ? One storage connected to two SCSI
busses or one host connected twice to the same SCSI bus ?

Host
      SCSI #0 -----------------------------------------------...
                                               |
                                         Raid Controller
                                               |
      SCSI #1 -----------------------------------------------....

or

Host

      SCSI #0 ---------------------------------------------....
              |                         |
              |                  Raid Controller
      SCSI #1 |

What are the advantages of Dual SCSI attachment against FTdisk support ?

>What is Dual SCSI attachment ? One storage connected to two SCSI

  Two SCSI buses (from the same host) connected to a dual-redundant
  HSZ configuration effectively eliminating the SCSI bus as a single
  point of failure and, depending on the driver implementation,
  increasing throughput via dynamic load balancing across buses.
