484.0. "Most dangerous police chases" by METALX::SWANSON (Victim of Changes) Mon Feb 03 1997 15:31

Did anyone see that show on Fox last night called "Most Dangerous Police Chases"
(or something like that)?

There was some really incredible footage shown. Especially that guy in the
tank! I can't believe how easily he just crushed anything he felt like!
And I can't believe that footage was actually shown! Definately not something
you see every day! :')

I see a trend happening here. They seem to be showing more and more shows
with real-life footage with high "shock factor" in it.

I wonder what will be next...

I saw it. Definitely held your attention--some amazing shots!

I'm of two minds about the trend though. On the one hand it's
fascinating to watch such stuff. On the other hand, the
proliferation of video cams means that as more real life events
of all kinds get filmed, some pretty gruesome stuff begins to show
up on TV and in the video store.

Japanese TV already had a special of horrific accidents from around
the world--graphic footage of people getting trampled to death, shot,
knived, crushed by cars, etc. I'm sure it'll show up on American TV
    if it hasn't already.

It's awful. You can't show a bare breast on US TV but you can show
actual footage of somebody getting their brains blown out.

Shawn,

I've seen them. I meant "what's next" for television!

In respone to the what's next:

FOX just aired a special on people who had narrow misses with death.
Example: Girl falling from a ferris wheel and getting caught up on it.
Also a man in a turned over jeep who basically drowned but was brought
back. I don't remember what it was called.

FOX has aired a lot of these type shows. They have aired a program
twice about humans being attacked by animals. As a previous noter
mentioned..there is some pretty graphic details shown. I am
continuously amazed at what they will show on t.v. but unlike the
majority (or so it seems) I'm not going to start blasting the networks
for doing this because "what if" my kids see it because I really
believe that tv monitoring should be done by the parents, not the
network. I'm sure I'm opening another can of worms here....Don't get
me wrong....I don't agree with the networks for showing violence or
sex, but ultimatley the responsibility lies with the parents.

Now back to our regular programming.......

I believe FOX has another special similar to the car chase one that
airs this month, but I'm not sure.

I agree with you - responsibility lies with the parents.

"When Animals Attack III" is on FOX tonight at 9pm.

If you want a show that's pretty graphic, watch "Trauma in the ER"
on the Learning Channel. Sometimes I have to cover my eyes cause
they are showing you actual footage of trauma cases.....some are
so gruesome I just can't watch.

Sometimes it's not the kids that are the problem. I remember when those home
video things started coming out there were lots of stories about parents
deliberately plopping Jr into his little red wagon and taping him careening down
the hill toward an open door just on the chance of winning a $10,000 award.

Those were the shows I had trouble watching.

And those shows got old in a hurry, I thought.

How many funny things can possibly happen at weddings that haven't
    	already been seen 100 times?

How many times can a camcorder wielder be beaned with an object be-
    	fore it becomes unfunny?

Well, someone is still watchingthem because that annoying Bob Saget
    is still around.

I don't mind the videos, but they could dump Bob Saget entirely,
as well as the studio audience. The attempts at comedic interludes
are just so tedious. Just the voiceover anouncements is all they need.

I agree, Saget is SERIOUSLY not funny in my opinion.

But then, I was absolutely stunned to hear a friend of mine say she
thought he was the funniest person on TV.

Some of you folks may be happy to know that these "episodes" are now
available on video. Saw them at Blockbuster this weekend.
